I think the sample sounded very amateur noise, but I'll be checking out the album. Thanks.

Have you heard VOND, one of Mortiis' side projects? I don't like Mortiis that much (even though some of the stuff are good) and I very rare like synth ambient, but VOND "SELVMORD" is pretty good. Gloomy as hell.

Yes I have... and there was a time I thought it was quite OK and also gloomy but today - NO THANKS. Those pan-flute sounds... urrghh. Confused

Argh, plan flutes are gay, but it works for me in VOND.

Somebody have any good ambient with the dark and mystic space aura? Like for example NEPTUNE TOWERS and some of the LUSTMORD material.

Kraftwerk 'The Man Machine' is exceptional! Anyone heard Big Black's version of 'The Model' from 'Songs About Fucking' - great original and cover!

If ever you can see Kraftwerk, I have to say it was a truly monumental experience. Especially when you're watching 4 guys play laptops he he.

Oh shit... never knew it was a cover. Embarassed Well, you live and learn! Absolutely great album and a band too (BIG BLACK!).

I really should get me some Kraftwerk. A friend went to see them recently and told me it was the best gig she'd ever been to.

Apparently NT was a direct Klaus Schulze tribute, so you might want to check his material. I need to do that too - fuck, for how long I've been saying this already?

As he has an extensive discography it might take some time to listen to it all, give it a chance.

By the way, I found the Equitant (ex-Absu guy) releases to be EXCELLENT cold technoid electronic music drawing heavily on Kraftwerk so it is absolutely recommended.

I like a lot of krautrock stuff but my favorites are still the "big names" like Can, Kraftwerk, Faust and especially Neu! I haven't had the money to dig a lot deeper though I'm sorta familiar with a lot of the other artists involved in the movement (Guru Guru, who I find OK but too standard rock in a lot of ways, Ash Ra Tempel, Amon Duul, etc...)

Is Beherit's "Electric Doom Synthesis" inspired by something in particular? And can somebody recommend something in the same style?

Beherit's electronic was probably inspired mostly by Biosphere, Kraftwerk, and Bathory.

Seeing as Mr. Schulze apparently has quite an extensive discography, perhaps it'd be helpful if some people listed what they thought was the best place to start.

Depends on what the listener want hear from him since he has played alot of stuff through the years! For people seeking that cold and distant space sound I recommend 100% his first two albums (Irrlicht and Cyborg). Dune has as well some of that cold feeling but some more experimentations. Also the Body Love soundtrack is magnificent but more dreamy. Blackdance and Timewind rule as well.
Like also some of his later stuff which are less dark but relaxing. In that category I can also STRONGLY recommend Tangerine Dream's - Underwater Sunlight. And also from later Klaus Schulze some would like to check his recent collaboration with Lisa Gerrard (ex Dead can dance vocalist).

P.S. People into that cosmic vast sound of early Klaus Shulze, Kraut etc should check Cosmic Jokers. A band where Klaus Schulze used to play

More recently, I really love KOSMOS, Away's Krautrock style band.
