They kiled a 15 year old boy and just happened to of had the most amature worthless "band" going at the time using school instruments.
Neither member could tune a guitar let alone play.
But they killed a kid and then claimed it was done for the aryan race or something equally retarded.
One of the murderers posts on here daily under the DARKERTHANBLACK moniker.

He is a hero to clowns like this.

BulletBelt is a woman. ABSURD is great.

Just about every "book" I have read that is written by someone in this scene has been pointless drivel obviously conceived when the authors were seventeen.

Maybe in the bodybuilder - scene...

There are simply no books about Metal that are worth a penny.

Hehe maybe he is ... Very Happy
I liked his individual style with alot of humour besides typical mental states of journalism ..
but only his early books are great.

But again what about this "voices from the Darkside" thing ?

Seems like the floodgates are open; yet another book about black metal.
The list of people interviewed seems ok, although very much a northern affair again, it seems. I've never heard of this writer before, but then again I have left Terrorizer and Metal Hammer to the shelves for quite a while.

ĎBlack Metal: Evolution Of The Cultí, a gripping look at black metalís history, written by former Terrorizer scribe Dayal Patterson is available to pre-order.

Got that one today, and yeah... Feral House were serious when they advertised this book as: "Perhaps you know Black Metal through Feral Houses's Lords of Chaos. Here's the rest of the story."

Why, the target audience appears to be similar: the "unaware public" who might get some chills out of real life "crime stories" (or stories about Satanists, Deviants, and the like, for that matter). Even for those only mildly interested in Black Metal, this book covers no new territory at all.

I have yet to read through the 600 pages, of course, but I can already say that this author apparently started out to write a book about this genre after meeting a few guys of Mayhem etc., and they told him some exciting stories of the times of yore. And the more people he talked to while writing his book, the more stories he heard and could include in his book. Hence it all comes down to 600 pages of hearsay more or less. Selling that as the ultimate "encyclopedia of Black Metal" is a bit too preposterous, but any attempt at writing such might be an exercise in futility anyway.

The chapter about NSBM was annoying in particular. He talked to Rob Darken, of all people, for learning about NSBM. As if Rob Darken ever said his band is/was NSBM to begin with!? Rolling Eyes However, he concluded this chapter by quoting Watain and Dissection who both said Black Metal can only be about Satanism blabla, and thus it was proven to him that NSBM is pretty much irrelevant in the wider context of the genre.

He talked a lot to Mikko Aspa, though. Kudos to that!

Bitching on a forum is always safe and easy, and normally I ignore postings like this, but for once I choose not to:

Evolution of the Cult is pretty good, especially if you get the zine that comes along with it. Well worth the money, even if it's just for the TONS of unreleased photos etc.

I found "Evolution Of The Cult" very disappointing. The choice of bands covered is generally good, but he writes in that cliche-ridden 'music journalist' style which has been passed down the UK Metal mags over the years - and in the process makes the bands sound boring as fuck. I mean, this is some of the most exciting music ever made, but the book really failed to get any of that across for me. It's just "band-x was inspired by extreme thrash and hardcore punk then did a bit of death metal then decided to do black metal then got a bit famous zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

You got a point here! But then again, I guess those bands really were that "boring", for lack of a better term. Know what I mean? Rehearse, record, etc... I would not know how to make it sound more spectacular.

I should have explained myself better (good job I'm not writing a book Laughing ). I meant that he doesn't manage to express the excitement of the music itself. There's no successful attempt to analyse or explain why or how these bands could create the most incredible music imaginable. By the end, I was just marvelling at how dull and repetitive it all seems.

If the book was better written, it would've inspired me to run into my record room and start digging out BM classic after BM classic. As it stood, I finished the book, put it on the shelf and carried on listening to the Sisters of Mercy.
