There's an older book from the 90's analyzing metal culture that seems to be lesser known. I don't know how it holds up today, but when it came out it was one of the only books I found that looked at the subculture in an academic way. Sort of a precursor to the Metal Journey film.

Also the Motley Crue autobiography "The Dirt" is super entertaining.

I still need to get around to Lemmy's book. Been told that it is a great read as well. I got Tom Warriors book "Are you Morbid?" but quit reading it halfway through, before it pissed me off so much I had to burn my CF and Hellhammer albums.

The only tip I have is that you should AVOID anything and everything by Martin Popoff.

But it IS hilarious! A waste of letters but hilarious nevertheless.

Edit:
I remember a (possibly Italian?) book about satanism, occultism and Rock/Metal from the late 80s or so, I think Venom, Slayer and rather obscure stuff like Metamorfosi, as well as erotic satanic pulp comics were topics. The version I read was in German, will take some serious library archeology to dig that title out, though.

SWEDISH DEATH METAL - *forgot the author's name, that Insision bassist*
THE BLOODY REIGN OF SLAYER - Joel McIver
Autobiography of JOHN PEEL - good reading though not exactly metal but his influence on promoting the early 90s grind scene is indisputable.
CHOOSING DEATH - Albert Muldrain

I know mentioned in original post but I really enjoyed 'The Dirt' and 'White Line Fever'. My wife gave me some book written by Gene Simmons last year but I never read it..prob never will. Cant stand the guy. Love Kiss though.

EDIT: Also Tom G Warriors "Are you Morbid?" should be an interesting read although he does come off as a bit of a twat.

The 33 1/3 "Reign in Blood" entry is a pretty interesting read.

No matter what you're into - 'The Dirt' is the rocknroll party bible! Blows 'Hammer of the Gods' out of the water.

Once in a while when i'm in Hollywood, I look behind the Whiskey and wonder which apartment was theirs.
I'm sure the current owner living there now has no idea of the raunchy nasty history within those vile walls.

The Crue house -
" The bedroom Tommy and I [Vince] shared was to the left of the hallway, full of empty bottles and dirty clothes. We each slept on a mattress on the floor draped with one formerly white sheet that had turned the color of squashed roach. But we thought we were pretty suave because we had a mirrored door on our closet. Or we 'did'. One night, David Lee Roth came over and was sitting on the floor with a big pile of blow, keeping it all to himself as usual, when the door fell off the hinges and cracked across the back of his head. Dave halted his monologue for a half-second, and then continued. He didn't seem to be aware that anything out of the ordinary had happened - and he didn't lose a single flake of his drugs."
Laughing

I also [still] need to get a hold of Swedish Death Metal book!
Damn thing is a bit pricey though. I keep hoping that i'll find it used/cheap on Amazon or something similar.

'Are you Morbid?' was an absolute dissapointment.
Nothing but putting down the classic CF era.

there's a new book that collects Decibel magazines Hall Of Fame articles which is where they interview all members of a band about a "classic" album. Now there are plenty in there to skip over, but several good ones like Repulsion, Napalm Death (Scum), Darkthrone (Transylvanian Hunger), etc... If you haven't already read them, they are enjoyable.

Why?
I'm absolutely curious about that one, and it seems almost impossible to get since it is always showing up for stupid amounts of money...
Any further info would be highly appreciated.
