they're very uneven at best. I liked the demo.

Spun in Darkness is worth following. It's interesting to see where Jeff takes the Goatlord sound.

I agree 100%.

Just can't get into it...

No offense to those who like it; I'm sure I like music that you hate, too.

Yosuke you are wrong here.Coffins are one of the best DEATH metal of nowadays. Please listen carefully ''Buried Death '' LP!So rotting and disgusting...Ugly like hell! The bastards sons of Celtic Frost!
This band makes me feel the real essence of death!!!!
Their music ,along with fantastic-total necro artworks drives you to psychedelic diabolic paths....Hail Uchino!!!
Hail Chris Moyen for inspiration. You are unique!!!
And...the sound of ''mortuary in darkness'' is so fuckin' twisted..It's like bzzzzzzzzzzz))))))))))))).Like a demon pierce your ears....666

Coffins is certainly not the worst nor the best. They belong somewhere between the median and 0% range for me. The #1 death metal throne belongs to Drowned from Germany.

I happen to like Coffins quite a bit on their recordings, but when I saw them live they were VERY dissappointing.

And speaking of drowned, does anyone know if there will be any new material from them soon?

The last time I asked (spring 09), they were writing new songs. So I guess it won't be anytime soon.
The New Ćon/Drowned T.B.A. [split demo CDR] release, that was announced on Black Warcult/tothundemeton site is cancelled.

Great band for sure, but what about them in particular that places them above other great active bands like DEAD CONGREGATION?

I obviously like DC but I still put Drowned above all other current bands.

I really liked Mortuary In Darkness with the Frost/Winter mix (and partly some Nihilist too). Great stuff like Slaughter Of the Gods and especially Sacrifice To Evil Spirit. Fantastic riffing.

However, the following records didn't have enough memorable riffs anymore. It's ok for a quick shot, but after 40min I can't remember what I have actually listened to.

I think that Coffins faster (well, mid-paced) material is fucking amazing (a la NY's WINTER, etc). Their slow doomy stuff, which unfortunately takes up 70-80% of their records is rather boring. If they did the faster stuff and filled up records with it, dropped the slow doom, I would be a very big fan.

Mike has sold out from HPGD. He is repressing soon on the white vinyl with the alternate artwork. Should be a couple of months. Jeff

Just picked up a copy of this. The SPUN IN DARKNESS track is incredible, and the COFFINS track is pretty good as well.
