There is another thread on here dealing
with sound on I-pods but this is slightly different.
I don't own one and can't see myself ever getting one,
unless every single release goes digital and
production of cassette, turntables, and cd players
is phased out.
This is not a critique of those that do, but is there
anyone out there that does not own one?

Yeah me
I had an mp3 player with 128 MB space a couple of years ago as well as a Walkman but that one broke 2 years ago
I'm not really into Heavy Metal on the go unless it's in a car or else

It's mostly good for being at the gym or doing housework outside or something along those lines. Or when you're trying to housebreak a damn dog, and he won't go outside unless you wait him outside with you until he finally goes. Mad

Ok not an answer to your question, but I DO enjoy the pleasures of the feared Ipod. I DO download but then again if I like something I buy it. For me mp3 is a great way for me not having to stand in a record store checking out heaps of shit because of what might be good. Dont have the time or the priority.
Since most people do have most music available on the click of a button, they ARE more critical which is good. There will be trillions of bands but a handfull of quality bands....this has always been and will never change. I welcome mp3. I hate your band more easily.

I didn't have an mp3 player (Ipod by the way is a specific brand, not a general term for this device) until last year, but I couldn't be more happy with it. Rain, snow, sun, etc... It's held up in all conditions without giving me any trouble.

Mines an 8 GB Colby, by the way.

I do have I-touch, but most of my music comes from my own cd collection and its very helpful at my job since instead of taking with me only 5-6 CDs and can have 200 cds at the Ipod (Itouch 16GB) this also help me to keep safe my CDs Very Happy as for tapes or LPs Im too lazy (also lack of time) to do the tranfers so in those cases I enjoy LP & tape when Im in kame house drinking beers in weekends during kakarot's metal & beer time Razz .

I want to get one of the next-gen iPhones with 32GB for a quite a decent amount of .mp3s and so I don't have to carry two devices constantly.

All of my friends keep bugging me to
get one. I might end up eating my words and
taking the plunge.

The replies to this post all seem to
be another incentive.

Had one... never again. The sound quality sucks major cock, the rechargable battery is a joke, the joy of controlling iTunes equals that of being gang-raped and last but not least this piece of shit tends to hang up during the worst moments after a year of extreme usage.

If you hate life, the iPod is just the right item for you; everyone else should buy a cowon iaudio from ebay - those bastards are indestructible, reliable as fuck and have a great sound quality.

I have a Zune and I don't what I do without it!

I must have metal on the go especially in the car with all that traffic, makes the trip feel faster!

Not to mention it saves me from having a crap load of CD's in the car.

I wish I could afford a big ipod like one of the 80gb puppies cause I really need to clear up some of the 65 gigs of music on my computer Laughing . I dont really notice much of a difference sound wise I wouldnt go throwing out all your vinyls and cds though. I was just getting sick of scratching cd's and not being able to listen to them anymore so I ripped all of my stuff onto my computer. The convenience of having all your music at your finger tips rules but nothing beats having the vinyls of everything.

In all seriousness, all musick is feeling and a time and place for it. The glory feeling of adding a vinyl to the player in the dead of the night you cannot beat, but at the same time, listening to 'the clarvoyant' from Maiden in some walk on a sunday is immense. Im drunk now Razz

Without a doubt, having an Mp3 player changes one's consumption of music. I think that most legitimate music fanatics (especially metal) prefer to listen to entire releases as they are intended, rather than "shuffle" or on th go playlists. I was pretty hyped on getting an Ipod a year or two after they came out, simply because I always had a ridiculous amount of cassettes and cds with me everywhere I went. Right now I have a job where thankfully, I can listen to music all day, so an MP3 player is quite the asset. Nothing beats throwing on a record when I get out of work though.
