Merciless sounds more like a Sadus worship band.

You don't hear DD Crazy on the first two Nifelheim?

Not really; I can see where he might be an influence, but not the primary influence. Rhythmically more than in chord progressions. Merciless? Sadus? Hmm, I'll have to re-listen to the old Sadus I have. I can see similarities in how they write choruses.

Nifelheim to me is a lot closer to really primitive NWOBHM, like Motorhead crossed with Def Leppard.

Weapon reminds me most of Dissection and old Rotting Christ. There are a lot of other elements in there too that slowly creep out after repeated listens. I think it's a pretty killer release and expect more each time I spin it....

Same. I immediately thought of Dissection upon the first few sections. I think this is one of those releases that people will be praising later, rather than now.

Are you listening to the same band? Those guys definitely worship Iron Maiden, but I hardly hear any Motorhead.

I think the rerecording of "Remnants of a Burnt Mosque" is absolutely brilliant. I never really liked the original, but now substituting an acoustic for that HORRIBLE bass sound on the demo is genius. Great fucking song!

I have in the past listened to the first album. The Motorhead influences may be second-hand, or borrowed from other bands that influence them.

I personally fukking loved the bass on the first version and was kinda chapped when it was gone.

I think it's boring, formulated and pop-like, reminds me of Amon Amarth, just loads of triumphant-esque feel good riffs and epic for the sake of epic shit.

I agree here.

I think black metal has been trying to ditch its roots for a long time... the early 1990s > Venom-worship, and going back to it now is pointless.

Drakonian Paradigm absolutely SLAYS. Third best album of the year. Invigorating, memorable, passionate and powerful, with all the best qualities of rock-influenced blackened death metal. Somewhat of a ritualistic, occult vibe in the songwriting too, which really gives the band a classic identity. Usually, I can empathize with reasons people don't like albums I do, but with this one, I'm utterly puzzled about the negative reactions. Maybe people are expecting RotD-isms due to Paulus' involvement? I don't know, but it's a damn fine album that deserves all the praise certain people are effervescing about it.

Never heard them before traveling up to Vancouver for their show last Saturday but I am sold. Great band!
