I bought it a few weeks ago. Its goth music, plain and simple. Doubt I will ever through it on again, unless a friend is curious to hear it.

It's 80's death rock/goth like Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, Samhain, Danzig, etc.

There is a sample posted somewhere in this thread.

Sounds like a rough version of Bauhaus IMO.

It reminds me of Christian Death but with that repetitive Von songwriting. It even has the spoken "poetry" intros that a lot of Von songs have. It's OK but to be honest it didn't keep my interest past about three songs. Interesting and pretty unique, and I wish they had kept going with it because there's a lot of potential, but it just doesn't come together all the way.

I disagree. I think it's very well put together for what it is. You should also listen to side B because the songs are better.

Are there still plenty of the diehard remaining at this point? I'm short on cash on the moment and after hearing the sample I am fucking obsessed, I must have this on vinyl...hopefully the rest of the album is as good as this sample. I've always loved old 80's goth.

I really LOVE 'On The Dead' and im gonna order this LP the second i have the money but i really didn't understand the pre-release hype. Everybody got really interested in this cos it's a VON "side project"... But it has allmost none similarities with VON. Most of the users on this board probably don't like post-punk or goth rock so why would they suddenly like it when there's a couple of black metal dudes doin' the stuff? This isn't much different from Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, Killing Joke etc...

I'll admit that I did buy it because of my love for VON, but Im not going to claim that I enjoyed it once I got my hands on it. One song (first one on side B) was okay...but still, nothing I ever want to listen to again. I think the artwork was the best part !

It's the addition of the more sinister feel and added degree of repetitive primitivism that makes me enjoy it more than the post-punk bands you mention. They certainly had both those elements, but Sixx intensifies them at the expense of aspects of those bands which I didn't like. Similar to Alcest; I don't like shoegaze stuff in general, but when mixed with black metal influences it becomes transformed subtley.
