I've been selling off my music collection over the course of a couple years while keeping just the few albums I really like and converting the rest to mp3s. The reason is not to make money- I'm merely making a little money back, while loosing the rest- but to make space for other things in my house. Having a physical music item is just not as important to me now as it was 10-15 years ago.
Don't feel sad- celebrate! You're moving past wanting material objects and towards the state of nirvana. _________________

A album is just an album, always was, always will be. |
Seconded.
Also 2 or so years ago had to sell something and choice more expensive stuff, its better to sell 1 lp than 20 at least. If something is really rare, then you can dub this into cdr or tape.
Anyway sellig stuff from own collection is horrible. _________________ www.doom-zine.com

| I basically have to sell stuff to get basic essentials for myself pretty often. Its really CDs I do not listen to, but I hope I don't have to start selling part of my collection to get money. |

I heard Yosuke ships boatloads of unemployed Japanese men to the United States and dresses them up as Geishas for his thriving escort business. Can anyone confirm? _________________

| I'm on my third collection now, the first one i left behind in my country when i moved to the US, the second one saved me from starvation one day and gave me enough to survive for a couple of months while i regained my financial health. Through the years i've managed to find everything again, very few still missing but i don't want to pay senseless prices for them, and nowadays things are very stable but in case of an emergency i wouldn't hesitate on selling my collection again, it's worth probably as much as i make in one year, it all depends on how much you need the money and how important your collection is to you. I would suggest drawing unemployment or finding a job in a temp agency before getting rid of your records, but it's all your decision. Anyways, good luck on finding a job or selling your records |

Well, I live in one brutal capitalist shithole of a country (Serbia) which means that I need really really crazy luck to find a job with above 400$ per month. So, my collection isn't large, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. I can't afford too many records, but I carefully choose what to buy. I try to do not allow myself any kind of "blind-choices" or "half-likes" (except when record is really cheap). That led me to situation that 80% of my collection is actually made of stuff which I see as very personal classics. I wouldn't sell or trade any of it, no way, I already passed too much hard work and financial difficulties just to get these records in my hands. In some way, selling these looks like killing myself.
But, selling WHOLE collection looks like suicide for me. Maybe you can try to get rid of records with little to zero importance, but don't sell all, you will regret it sooner or later. Anyway, there are more chances that you will get at least some kind job sooner or later than these records back. _________________ in metal there is no law |
