I am absolutely into "new" Barathrum. Right now I am listening to a lot "Okkult" and well, that album is as great as the other "new" ones like "Saatana" or "Legions of Perkele".
Tracks like "I am very Posessed" and "Land of Tears" (new recording) are absolutely great songs within the huge Metal universe. The rest of the tracks are great, too.
Anyone also into "newer" Barathrum (1998-2000)? I have to confess that "Venomous" is the weakest album of the newer ones that I have heard so far, but I have to give it a few more spins. Didn't listen to the "Anno Aspera" album yet. How does it sound?
What I like most is the catchiness of the tracks, the sound (yes, it is a "modern" one, but still great and not sterile).
I think and hope to go on with another Barathrum vinyl release ("Okkult") in 2010.
Barathrum can offer more than just "Infernal", "Eerie" and "Hailstorm"...

I love their demos and Hailstorm. Eerie and Infernal are great as well
especially the demos have a lot of Abruptum athmosphere

Yes, I know I know. But we are talking about the "newer" one. Everyone is hailing their early stuff. But I want to hear opinions about the 1998-2000 period, even afterwards.

I cannot understand why people that like their early material cannot like the later ones as well...

Anno.. was pretty damn lame. I had to sample each track because it would've been too boring to sit through a whole song.

I like Legions of Perkele very, very much.

I gave the later records a chance, but everything after Legions... just doesn't move me; there are individual tracks which are OK, but nothing like "Dark Sorceress", "Last Day in Heaven", or "Warmetal"!

That said, Eerie is my all-time favorite Barathrum record, and the one I usually reach for.

Anno Aspera is their best since "Legions...". Didnt like Okkult or Saatana that much, some good songs.

I too prefer the newer stuff. Hailstorm and Eerie are fine records, don't get me wrong. That dismal and doomy sound is perfect at times. The newer material has much better song writing IMO. The one thing that gets me on tracks like "Last Day In Heaven" is how clear they sound. I'm used to rawer stuff these days Wink Of course it used to be the opposite. Still, killer! Really wish for a repressing of Black Flames & Blood.

I think so too. The majority of songs on Saatana and Okkult are just pure crap like I Am Very Possessed... urgh. That's when I gave up on them.

Devilry -promo is their best stuff. Best songs from Legions of Perkele with "Studio Perkele" production and hellish vocals. Dennis should release that one on MLP.
