Do it but don't mention that it is a cover. Many times I notice in tracklists a song title but cover is not mentioned.

You donīt need to ask the artist if you want to do a cover. You only need the artists permission if you change/add music or lyrics in some way...

I handled it like this in the past....
I did rename the song on the tracklisting I had to send to the copyright organization. If you want to be on the even more safe side just donīt do the printwork (Cover with the right tracklisting) at the pressing plant youīre doing the Cd/Vinyl with. In this case they canīt notice the difference on the tracklist on the cover to the paperwork...

yeah the covers are being printed separately so thats not an issue. i guess my main concern was the idea that a copy of this could fall into the hands of someone who gave a fuck about a mototrhead cover and start causing shit

There is an Unleashed cover we did on our myspace, and we were told by Century Media that if we ever put it on a cd, we will owe them almost as much for the cover as it costs to press the cds themselves.

Is it a joke or...?

Isn't it a bit too paranoid?

It will be on tape, your label is very small, and more than half might be traded, so...
Any royalties anyway?

I would think Motorhead wouldn't give a shit. If they DID give a shit they would have to go hunt down the makers of the 50 billion bootlegs done of their stuff before they even got to you... Razz

I think the bands care not that much about the cover. It's the record companies that own the rights to the songs, who want to earn some extra cash (when I look on the posting with the Unleashed coverversion and the money Century Media wants to charge)
