this question is for people outside the u.s:

does it cost money to receive a registered package? and if so, how much, depending on the declared value?

the reason why i ask, is because the fucking lazy and retarded postal employee didn't bother to properly read the value i declared on a registered package i sent to italy, and interpreted the dollar symbol i wrote (i wrote the declared value as $5) as a "4", thus the receipt says that the value of the package is $45!! fucking stupid!! i didn't notice the mistake until i got home and looked at the receipt.

the person i sent the package to requested that i write a cheap price so as to not have to pay a lot to pick up the package, so assuming that there is a cost, how much would it be in this case?

i fucking hate the post office! always filled with lazy, inept workers. why?!?!

Depends towards which country you have shipped that. In Germany (if the value is above 22 Euros) you have to pay VAT plus custom-tax, equalling up to roughly 24% of the original value.

So when the parcel goes in customs because someone has written a higher value than 22 Euros on the envelope, you pay 24% of this additionally to the nice lady in the custom-office...

Probably similar to other countries.

I have been recieving packages with declared prices up to 100 EUR and as far as the green coulored declaration label indicates that the contents are GIFT/CADEAU there is no problems at customs at all.

The problem is when the pack is not labeled as gift, as is the case with big shitty companies like amazon that will send an invoice and then you have to pay taxes near 30% including what you paid for shipping!!!!!

What the fuck... so now whenever I ship registered should I mark gift? Because I always put a check on "Other"?

fucking bullshit! with my luck, i'll bet the customs fee the guy will have to pay about as much as the item is worth, which i told him i would refund because i feel partly responsible for the fuckup.

Always mark every package "gift", unless you want fuck over the receiver, also keep the value under 15 EUR / 20 USD, but if you're insuring it, then put it's real value.

Most places I get parcels from have 'gift' marked.
Ones I've sent, I would never place a value on. All political bullshit anyways. Like you would ever get that 'value' back in a loss anyways.

Lately all my parcels have passed customs without a single problem. Only when customs opens them do I have some kind of duty fee.
For awhile it was only parcels from THE END RECORDS that were being opened.
Probably been a year now since last I was charged.

It's ridiculous 24-30% taxes on top of shipping that kills mailorder and tape trade in metal to begin with, i'd understand something under than 5% of total. Who wants to pay an addition $24 for something they bought for $100 + postage?

Just mark everything as gift, it saves a lot of hassle.

Tip: state it is a USED record (so it will have to be open or without plastic seal) and you can really declare a very low price...put it on the green invoice thing...and if possible add an invoice in the package...will save the receiving party lots of headaches...

I always mark gift. I mean it's not a commercial sample Wink

Also never had any postal worker here ask me about that. I guess they all recognize / know me or think I'm angry... or else they just don't care.
