maybe a tragic, maybe a funny thread, decide for yourself.

I have about 600 vinyl records (shitty ones, rare ones, mediocre ones, brilliant ones) but there is only ONE record in my collection that has stood too long in sunlight and has been deformed by its heat:

BURZUM - FIRST LP on DSP. argh!

shall I laugh or cry? fate ...

any similar tragedies? your most precious vinyls that are deformed now because of stupid storage?

btw: how do you say it in english. something like "the record has a wave"? or how?

There are several guides on the net how to flatten out vinyl warps, but Ive tried out myself, Id say be caustious when trying out to prevent destroying the grooves
The only warped I have is some brazilian NWOBHM alike demo on LP which somehow developed one, I guess because of the shitty brazilian press

Is it really that bad? I mean there are almost no vynils in my collection that are 100% flat (no, my storage is good Wink ). Especially the heavier ones (150-170 grams) which's material due to it's thickness is much more stable almost every time have a little wave when they arrive from the mailorders.

What kind of storage are you using?

As for the thread ,well I have a blasphemy LP that layed flat for a prolonged period and it's not super warped like a salad bowl but slightly messed up, I can see my stylus dancing everytime I play it.

I've read you can't fix heat warps.

Now why and the fuck would you even let SUNLIGHT penetrate your vinyls!???

I always thought that was a Golden Rule, no sunlight, no heat, and no excessive cigarette smoke?!

You Should put/laid down a tapestry/flag on or against your collection? I have a 6ft tall Oak Cabinet specifically constructed for my record collection.
I always have a tapestry/flag of somesort(right now its KISS-destroyer), tacked into the wood and blocking any sunlight that may get in. I have blinds in my computer/music room. So, I just close the blinds most of the time.

just a thought man?

yeah sure, but 12 years ago - when it happened - I was not caring for a proper storage and I was keeping the vinyls just in a simple board, stupid as I were. and well, I was smoking a lot. there were no golden rules for me. at least I had some pvc-sleeves around the records haha!

nowadays I keep the standing in wooden boxes, pvc-sleeves, in a dark corner of my living room. unfortunately the boxes are standing on the floor and for the case there would be a water-damage in my flat there could be a problem for I store the records with the open pvc-sleeve to the right and not with the open side on the top if you know what I mean.

how do thers this? the pvc-sleeve open on the right or the top?

btw: I would never try to flat them by any trick? hear about warm stone plates and heavy weight and such bullshit. argh, never!

I heard 50°C in the Oven on a perfectly flat fiber glass plate

The open side of my pvc-sleeves always point to the top.

Und reduziert darüber hinaus die Chance, dass man das Ding mal verpeilt falsch greift und dann völlig verdattert zusieht, wie die Platte zu Boden segelt. Laughing
