Regarding food, don't forget the "Don't Feed the Bears" metal/vegan cookbook done by OTESANEK Brad. Even if you aren't vegan, there are a lot of good recipes in there, and each one has a recommended metal album to listen to while you cook.

For example: "Demian's Black Masserole (aka the Potluck Poser Disposer)," set to the tunes of KREATOR - Coma of Souls.

Sure, metal has its own musical style, dress, art styles, etc. Anything with dedicated fans can be a culture if there is enough of them and there are similarities.

In a few generations, possibly then could be defined as a true culture maybe. Right now it's just young, more like a movement to me.

The black metal mentality is almost tribal in some ways, borrowing idea's possibly from cultural aspects of one kinds own past ancestral roots. ...and depending where you are from they may vary, but old tribal cultural ideas are not all that alien from one another really.

Age certainly helps define a culture, and metal just isn't there yet in my opinion.

It's not an authentic culture, a sub-culture yes.

How much longer would you say then? Cause right now Metal has been around for, arguably, 40 years already.

There was a cheese thread somewhere on this forum, maybe it might serve the author.

Those interested in this topic should check out the book "Subculture: the Meaning of Style" by Dick Hebdige. One of the most interesting things I've ever read regarding subcultures. The author relates most of his arguments to punk rock but the parallels to metal are obvious. Very good reading.

Metal culture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOYZZZa4me8

Seriously though, I think it's 'sub-cultural' in the sense that it's an off-shoot of mainstream culture in general (rather than being a 'subculture' of anything more specific).
