This may be controversial, but day after day of listening to the type of music
many of us listen to here, I start craving those technical massive sounding produced bands like Belphegor (new stuff) as well as krisun's new stuff.
Does any body else go through this phase?

I listen to some modern death metal although compared to how much old school and raw stuff I listen to, it's not a lot. I don't see anything wrong with the better bands of that type. I don't really care for the two you named, but that's just subjective - I do listen to some newer Behemoth, for instance, and a couple dozen others.

Dude, I'm even worse. After listening to this kind of music day in day out, I'll hear some metalcore band like Shai Hulud or weird adult contemporary like Ulver's Shadows of the Sun and think it's a breath of fresh air. I'll listen to that to "cleanse the palette" before craving the usual shitty, boring, minimalistic rip of musi- er raw black metal I usually listen to. HAHA

Modern death metal is no different than old school death metal. Some gems, a whole lotta garbage.
The first two Nile albums still represent the best death metal has to offer for me. 10 years on and the songs still pulse with total fucking malevolence.

yeah, I have no idea why are these bands being "hated". anyway, belphegor should quit being technical and go back to their old style.

some of my picks were:

Origin - Antithesis
Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked
Krisiun - Southern Storm (ageless venomous is ok but kicks were too clicky there)
Behemoth - The Apostasy + Zos Kia Cultus (that drummer is a monster live)
Psycroptic - The Scepter of the Ancients

other bands like kataklysm, quo vadis or neuraxis were also decent.

some oldies like Nocturnus the key is killer, Atheist, Cynic too but these guys were only technical not that "brutal".

Such an awesome album. One of the very few albums I think actually fits the definition of "brutal".

krisiun are one of the most boring bands ever, both on stage and on record. Having a good sound isn't the problem, having a massive sound isn't too, but crystal clear production fits Death-Metal as much as a XS-size shirt fits Hulk Hogan. Very Happy

I never liked this ultra technical/polished etc kind of death metal. Too sophisticated for me Wink

they're ok but not exactly boring. crystal clear might not be "it" for death metal but they get the job done. we just can't compare them with these classics:

AUTOPSY Severed Survival
MORGUE Eroded Thoughts
THE RAVENOUS Assembled In Blasphemy

I believe this is the kind of sound you're talking about

Can't be bothered with most of that shit, I listen to all sorts though, just find most tech/polished DM to be uninspired and not of particular interest.

The one tech/polished band i enjoyed was Death, especially its Human and Symbolic albums.

Occassional technical doodling is quite good to steer away from the usual bestial black/death we subject ourselves to. Atheretic from Canada is pretty good! So was Cryptopsy's Whisper Supremacy.

Nothing can compete the record that started a whole genre ever since: Scream Bloody Gore Twisted Evil
