i was a big fan of their old stuff too, but im pretty disappointed by what theyve turned into. everything you can say about an underground band signing to a big label and totally changing their sound is pretty cliche, but, if it walks like a duck, etc, etc...when these bands get defensive about their old fans not liking their new music, it reeks of self denial and a guilty conscience, id rather someone just admit theyre trying to make a little bit more money (im sure nachtmystium isnt rich) and a little more fame. why else would a band sign to a bigger label, and simultaneously change their sound to something much tangible to a more mainstream audience? the one obvious thing that bands like this dont seem to realize is, bigger labels only sign bands that they think will make them money, which means the label thinks that said band fits into a current, marketable trend. the labels well being relys one them exploiting current trends to their fullest extent, which means oversaturation (ie, thrash currently), which eventually leads to the trend burning itself out, and the trendies moving on to the next big thing. so the bands newer fans dont like them anymore, and the underground fans that got them where they are, feel betrayed by a band that went mainstream, and did something like belittle them for liking their older (underground) material. trend is over, you burned your bridges with the fans that got you the chance to be on the cover of some dumb magazine smoking a cigarette and making a zoolander face, go get a job at mcdonalds or something. sorry for the rant, i could go on about this forever, but i feel that if you want to make mainstream money, you shouldnt be making underground music in the first place, and bringing a watered down version of it to the publics ears is shameful and disrespectful to the music, and its culture, that got you there in the first place.
i havent written something that long since highschool.

I only have Eulogy IV and some live LP on Autopsy Kitchen Records. Eulogy is OK but I haven't listened to it in a few years. It reminded me of Gease in places, with that rock vibe. I haven't heard either Instinct:Decay or Assassins but it seems they were heading in a different direction from early enough in their career. To be honest it doesn't bother me. There are a million bands playing raw BM so it is more interesting to see a band try something different. (On that note I am dying to hear Atomizer and Midnight who pretty much passed me by until now, but their last albums both seem to be interesting from what I have read) Obviously I can't comment on whether it worked for them or not as I haven't heard the last two albums but what's the big deal? Then again, I'd like to totally contradict myself by saying that the change of direction undertaken by Unearthly Trance on everything since their first album is a travesty and has sullied them in my eyes. What was my point again?...

If only more bands would seek out Toyota endorsements.

Seriously though, I've always found this band completely boring but great at marketing.

I used to like them very much, but their recent turn to a more post approach left me with mixed feelings towards them Confused

Getting this, cheers, Mr. Black.

Old Nachtmystium is boring Judas Iscariot rehash, and JI wasn't exactly very original or consistent either.

That's a pretty lazy comparison.

I've done much lazier than that. I think it's very accurate.

Really, really like Instinct: Decay, not too keen on Assassins though, mostly because of those gang-style shouting vocals but there was something else that I didn't like that about it as a whole I can't really put my finger on. I liked the whole saxophone thing at the end though. What sort of sound has this MCD got? Is it just a continuation of the last record?

Same.

The samples on the myspace page sound nothing like Assassins, the songs are meant to be a tribute to their heroes or something. They name drop Mercyful Fate, Autopsy, Von, Darkthrone and a few others. The songs on the page sound alot heavier than Assassins.
