I'm on the hunt for some NEW bands (Like Alioth, Etemmu, Sjenovik) playing in this style first spearheaded by the likes of Rotting Christ, Acheron, Amorphis, Tiamat. Therion and others.... Post links if available.

I have Brainstorm (Ukr) - Brainstorm ep coming in the mail, and from what I've heard they fit your description, not entirely sure though. I'll let you know how it is.

Hmmm, interesting. I did a search via Metal-Archives and the description was indeed "Atmospheric Death Metal". So.... If you can, post the tracks once you get the EP, I'd like to hear it (by the way, this is not a NEW band as I requested).

probably not really what you after as the influences are different, but the new ulcerate album is pretty good atmospheric death metal imo...

I want to find out such bands too.
My contribution is very modest, as Snowgarden is more Göteborg & too modern to fit properly in this thread. As I happen to like the Of My Prey- track, here it goes anyway:
http://www.myspace.com/snowgardenfin
Not new by any means, but Rapture is worth checking out if you don't mind Katatonia influences.

Ok, as I obviously don't know any new atmospheric death metal bands, I stop at here and wait others replies...

Ulcerate sounds fairly decent. I wouldn't totally put them in the same category as the bands I mentioned initially, but they do have a nice atmospheric touch to their music.

Mitochondrion include some ambient and interesting passages. Also Tzun Tzu definitely have at least an interesting atmosphere, using Japanese influences.

Thanks for the response. I'll check out those two bands + I'll try to post a few mp3s from the initial bands I noted above (Etemmu, Sjenovik, Alioth) tonight.

Here's some tracks as promised:

Sjenovik
Sjenovik started out as a neofolk/post punk hybrid and eventually morphed into experimental death metal with tremendous atmosphere and thick layers of industrial noise. After "Jouissance" they became more black metal in nature with the latest outputs retaining less of the death metal element which I believe gave them a very heavy and unique sound.
"Black Wood" taken from "Valley of woe" demo 2007
DivShare File - 02 Track 2.mp3
"Three beasts three sins" taken from "Vallery of woe" demo 2007
DivShare File - 01 Track 1.mp3
"Makinds greatest and most absolute failure" and "Erfoscher" taken from their debut album "Jouissance" released on Starlight Temple Society in 2008.
DivShare File - 04 Track 4.mp3
DivShare File - 01 Track 1.mp3

Etemmu
This is the new band from ex-Sjenovik vocalist/guitarist BH. It's more in line with Greek death metal with some influences from Morbid Angel (I think it even sounds a bit like Alioth at times). Etemmu is less experimental than Sjenovik, though it still maintains some unusual atmospheric and progressive qualities which puts it at odds with the form death metal style. The following are unmixed/unmastered tracks from the debut demo. Following releases will contain better drum equipment, improved sound and a crisper production.
"Punishment"
DivShare File - Punishment mp3.mp3
"Wrath of the vengeful heart"
DivShare File - Wrath of the Vengeful Heart _unmixed_ mp3.mp3

Alioth
Features Wargoat Obscurum from Cult of Daath. He's silent on the status of Alioth at this point, and it appears COD is back so Alioth's future is unknown. Personally, I think Alioth is far more interesting than COD. The demo features 5 tracks mostly influenced by Greek death metal and bands like Acheron and (early) Cemetary. Two tracks below taken from "Channeling Unclean Spirits" demo.
"The Channeling"
DivShare File - 01 Track 1.mp3
"Apocryphal dimensions"
DivShare File - 03 Track 3.mp3

I fully agree with this. I was really excited about a new band playing the old greek style of black/death. This week I have been listening to pretty much nothing but the old material from Rotting Christ, Varathron, Septic Flesh, and Nightfall.

I hope to see Alioth's second demo "Beneath the swamp" come to life in the near future (keeps fingers crossed).

I'm surprised that so few bands are attempting to play in the Grecian style; but then again, Rotting Christ is harder to pin down than Darkthrone or Judas Iscariot. Smile

Im not sure is this band fitting what you search but i found it highly interested and good.I would call that just atmospheric death metal as there are lot of other influences..
That is KURHAN from Poland...If you want i can give you contact of band..
their tape should be released on Skeleton Plague records.

I got their promo recently. Very promising! Death metal with Mercyful Fate influence. Good that they found a label to release their stuff.
