I'd like to just state for the record that my favorite 90's norwegian record of all time is Kvist's "For Kunsten Maa Vi Evig Vike."

I now that album gets a lot of praise but it just doesn't do much for me. I guess I should give up checking out the Norwegian stuff I missed out earlier and just conclude I have everything I need... same thing happened with Ancient's Svartalvheim.

Anyone into TULUS? Always liked their unique sound on Pure Black Energy, Mysterion and Evil 1999. While not the best Norse stuff, they deserve to be mentioned here.

Yeah that album is insane in terms of quality songwriting and riffs. The obscurity of the project doesn't hurt either and the drumming is great. This album and Ulver's "Bergtatt" album are the two greatest bm releases of all time in my opinion.

I also agree with the comments someone made about Tulus' "pure black energy" album. Never cared for any later Tulus/Khold albums but that first one was macabre as fuck.

Only heard "Pure black energy" and the new one....but I do quite like a few of the Khold albums, so I should get around to tracking the others down.

Thinking about it, one of the few early 90's norse BM albums I still listen to regularly is Ved Buens Ende's "Written in waters". Some others that havent rated much of a mention:

Mysticum - "Streams of inferno"
Limbonic Art - "Moon in the Scorpio" (dont like the others so much, but this album was great IMO)
Ulver - Bergtatt

Not BM, but 122 Stab Wounds "Deity of Perversion" was a pretty cool record I think.

I'll also throw in Covenant - In Times Before the Light. I know this band later turned into some cheesy supergroup but that first album had the perfect atmosphere.

Another candidate for biggest wimp-out perhaps? They turned into some kind of marilyn manson wannabe band.

Definitely. Yeah I loved the debut, then they became The Kovenant and were all space suit'd out and I guess went toward some cheesy industrial black metal style. I really don't know as seeing the band photo told me all I needed to know. The first one was a total gem though, as was the early Kampfar and Gehenna material.

Sure thing. Actually, the new album "Biography Obscene" is quite good also!
