Just picked this up today. Back on Black must have higher quality standards now.
Gatefold is thicker, nice cover reproduction etc. Anyone else get it?

Back On Black are decent enough quality nowadays soundwise. Their early stuff was shocking.

Have they ever bothered to redo the first Burzum DLP? I know they put out superior versions of the next three, but I cannot abide that wretched first attempt...

Sound quality is great. I've never had this on vinyl, so I really don't have anything to measure it by, but it's fine for these ears. I might start to buy more B.O.B. releases if they keep getting better.

Burzum reissues were pretty decent in my opinion, but Mayhem DMDS was pure garbage even the cd version on Century Media sounds better...

Are the play speeds different on both sides? I have the original NOISE press (with opening on the top of the jacket and pinkish lettering ) and the play speeds are different. One side is 45, the other is 33 1/3. My Original US (Metal Blade) pressing is 33 1/3 on both sides.

BoB have improved with a few items in the past couple of years. I got the Apocalyptic Raids reissue presuming it was on Century Media to cash in on the intrest with the Demon entrails hype, only noticed it was BoB once I got home. Sound quality is quite good and the cover is a lot nicer then the old "just blow up the CD cover in photoshop" they had with the initial Emperor, Burzum and Mayhem represses. Also seems to have ironed out the old sound cut problems from the old stuff so it seems like they may well be working from masters finally rather then just lifting the CD versions and dumping them to vinyl.

No, both sides are 33 1/3, but that's got to do, with the recent version including the two songs from the "Death Metal" sampler as well, making it 3 songs on both sides then. It's an OK re-release in my book, but they could've done better, e. g. including the original lyric sheet, which came with the initial pressings, or featuring more pictures, not the least because "Demon Entrails" set the bar pretty high, so... Soundquality is decent, a little more muffled and bassy compared to the original (I actually did double-check) , but not bad at all.

More than decent quality, good jackets as well. I have this on red and clear vinyl. Any other available?
