Hails all...

Need to talk to any Canadian bands that have come down to the US for gigs recently, or any US bands that have gone North...

Need to know what is required to get across the border w/ gear, etc......

Work visa's or whatever????

Thanks!
Matt

Oh man, I've heard some serious horror stories from crossing the U.S./Canadian border. Sometimes they'll confiscate everything from bullet belts to chain wallets. Stupid as fuck, but they'll most likely have to carry passports too. Good luck.

Gear shouldn't be a huge problem, but merch is another story. I seriously doubt it would be worth getting a work visa, from what I've been told they're pretty expensive/pain in the ass to obtain and it's not like underground bands actually make any significant money on the road, so they'd most likely lose their asses.

Look/act/dress like a clown and border patrol will treat you as such. It's pretty simple, really.

Until they do a background check / take a look at what you're taking in, then it doesn't matter how you look on the outside.

I've heard fukked stories from business men being denied entrance because of a 'criminal' past or some fathers/relatives from their children's hockey game, being denied as well for some background stuff.

forget bringing any major gear ... rent/borrow everything possible once over the border. only bring necessities ... ie. guitars, heads, cymbals, snare, kicks - at the MOST. mail down any merch in advance. passports aren't a must yet .. but will be soon. as long as these folks aren't identifiable as "a band" then the border will have no problem .. "visiting a friend for a wedding" or something. don't mention any band members' names on any flyers or internet promo .. these bastards will check. work/entertainment visas take up to six months in advance .. not worth it. homeland security is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to underground tours, so take heed and be smart about it.

I got an entombed vhs live in montreal with nicke andersson, uffe cederlund and alex hellid only. canadian custums denied lars goran petrov and lars rosemberg. they played instrumental set with some random people from the crowd singing a couple of songs

Back in the 70's, my nutty parents decided they would just drive to Canada one day. They drove all the way up and my dad was denied for having long hair, haha. Then some drunk old Canadians saw him and said "what is that? Let's hit it with a stick to find out". Ever since this, my dad HATES Canadians.

I don't blame him. I've known some cool Canadians, but the majority of them annoy the shit out of me....sorry. Just something "aboot" them.
