Maiden *Killers* - I will never forget the day my mother got me this, I was ten I think but the purchase and subsequent listening will forever stay with me.
Def Leppard *Hysteria*
Guns 'n' Roses
Europe
Ac/Dc *Back in black*
Metallica *MoP*
Slayer *RiB*
Autopsy *Severed Survival*
Sepultura *Arise*
Morbid Angel *Altars*
Carcass *Symphonies*

I think that's about the chronology of my descent into metal hell

Laughing

Then the first Emperor mini LP got me started on Underground and BM.

Slayer and Sepultura, got me into heavier stuff.

Destruction, Razor, Kreator were then very important.

Desaster, the band that really opened doors to metal underground for me.

Really got to add Death here too. Don't how I forgot. Very important band for me.

And as far as heavy metal goes it's Iron Maiden.

Metallica, Slayer, Bathory.

Metallica because my friends older brother gave me a copy of Master Puppets on tape when I was 11 which I'd never heard anything like before as I'd previously been listening to Michael Jackson and Meat Loaf

Slayer: same guy who gave me Master of Puppets album also gave me Seasons in the Abyss; I remember not knowing anything about the recording process and thinking

Bathory: on the B side of the Master of Puppets tape the last of the space on the tape was taken up with Blood Fire Death, it took me until I was 20 to realize what the track actually was as it was uncredited on my 10 year old C90, I can tell you that was the greatest musical smack in the chops I've ever had, fucking Amazing.

I've been trying to re-capture that smack in the chops feeling ever since and it's been such an amazing search Twisted Evil

First bands were Black Sabbath, Scorpions, AC/DC (bon scott), Maiden, Priest, Motorhead and some Deep Purple. Then when 80's came, it was Motley Crue and WASP. I didn't dig the "glam explosion" at all (though been to some gnr concerts a couple of times). Bay Area Thrash/German Thrash catches my interest. It was early Metallica, Dark Angel, Destruction, early Kreator. Rust in Peace rules but never like Megadeth at all haha! I think he's just sad and seeks revenge at that time. Sepultura's too groovy but ok sometimes if you're drunk and wasted. In the long run, Sarcofago, Hellhammer, Mercyful Fate and Bathory were the most important bands to me.

First Heavy Metal band I heard was Iron Maiden when I saw "Number of the Beast" video on tv, then Guns n' Roses "Appetite for Destruction" and Judas Priest "Killing Machine" (first ever LP my father bought for my brother and I)...

First thrashy stuff was "Kill em All" and "Ride the Lightning" copied by my fathers friends son followed by "Reign in Blood" copied by an older neighbourhood kid.

After that came Napalm Death "From Enslavement..." that I convinced my rich school mate to buy because I was told it's the fastest music ever.

"Under the Sign of the Black Mark" was the first record to give me what I would now recognize as the Black Metal feeling.

Of course discovering more and more Death Metal, old Thrash Metal and Black Metal bands became my passion and the list became endless.

When I reached about 23 or 24 I started to open my mind some more and got interested in bands like King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Eloy, Van Der Graaf Generator, Rush etc so these bands are also important to me but more so only in the last 6-7 years I'd say.

But of course there's an endless list of bands that are important ones. These few mentioned basically started me out with each kind of style.

Motorhead and Machine Head (although I haven't listened to Machine Head for a few years) were important in getting me into metal.

Slayer and Sepultura were important in getting me interested in heavier stuff.

Morbid Angel, Napalm Death, Dying Fetus and Nile were important in getting me into death metal and grindcore.

Mayhem and Darkthrone were important for getting me into black metal. First black metal album I listened to was De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas and it blew my mind.

However, Sadogoat was the most important band for getting me into old-school black-death. If it wasn't for Sadogoat, I may not have started listening to Beherit, Blasphemy, Profanatica and Black Witchery till quite a bit later than I did.

The most important bands for me now is:
