That's like talking about Dimmu Borgir in relation to black metal.

Comparing GODFLESH to DIMMU BURGER really sounds odd,
I don't remember GODFLESH being a follower or a business targeted machinery...

It wasn't pure industrial, but industrial metal, that's clear... But why not taking them as a different genre?

This album is great, but it's also industrial metal...
I know some harsh noise/ early industrial enthousiast would shout at you for that Wink

I'm just saying that Godflesh and the like aren't pure Industrial. It's more listenable and composed than pure industrial stuff. People who know this genre well would laugh at this thread.

I personally don't like most of it.

I remember buying the first Fear Factory album in college because I thought industrial + death metal has to = WIN. But it turned out that low rent Ministry + low rent Napalm Death = snooze. I listened to that CD again a couple years ago and threw it out.

I used to like this album very much, and still like a part of it...
It has great moments, but now some songs sound a bit strange in structures or influences, and it lost a part of the freshness...
And well, what they did only 2 albums later really turned me off on the whole affair

In this case I agree, and it's clear...
Peoples should make a difference between industrial metal/ industrial rock, and early industrial that has more to do with experimental noise and improvised music, it's basically not rock at all...

You guys are right of course, but we're metal fans here, not industrial fans. Naturally most of us only know the more popular bands (and the ones that are closer to metal or rock in sound, for that matter).

Although of all of these that have been mentioned, I think Skinny Puppy is somewhat akin to the real thing - before their last couple of albums, their music was pretty noisy and difficult, and they almost never had conventional song structures (except when they worked with Al Jourgensen). There are beats and vocals - which is a kind of concession - but no catchy choruses.

Another good band which could be classed as industrial of sorts is Wraiths from Edinburgh. Pretty dark music there.

What the fuck does that mean? Never claimed to have a clue nor do I really want one when it comes to Industrial.

I wasn't into the style in the 80's/ early 90's (Too young),
but I think SKINNY PUPPY was more classified along the lines of electro industrial/ dark electronics... (Another style that occurs to be entitled "Industrial") And you're right, it was quite fucking experimental, and also visionary...

I am a huge fan of Industrial music...Skinny Puppy, Ministry, 90's-era Killing Joke, Swans, Controlled Bleeding, Coil, Godflesh, early Front Line Assembly, Big Black, etc.

I grew-up in Florida and in the 90's you were either with the Metal crowd and considered a joke, or you were with all the spooky Goth kids/deeply disturbed Industrial freaks who were considered "fags"....couldn't stand the Rozz Williams look-alikes and faggy poetry but I've always been a huge fan of the abrasive electronic sounds of the whole Industrial music genre.

I was a big fan of industrial music before I got into metal in general.

I'm quite surprised to see someone mention Pitchshifter! Industrial and Submit were their best albums but went into a complete transition to really bad nu-metal non-sense.
