I got into metal through bands like Bolt Thrower and Napalm Death and then into BM through Darkthrone, Enslaved, etc. and didn't really enjoy music like Venom or Bathory for quite a while.

There's probably at least one black/noise kinda band that I like now but deleted pretty quickly in the past.

Inquisition. Ominous Doctrines was my intro to them and I thought* the "Popeye" vocals where the most retarded thing I had ever heard. But I saw them live as a supporting act and they absolutely blew me away. Ominous Doctrines is still the weakest of all their output IMO, but I can dig it now.

I always thought those vocals were cool. Boring stuff though.

i'll be totally honest:

Danzig (i hated his solo stuff and was always pissed he stopped doing stuff like the misfits and samhain. hearing "blood and tears on a $2 cassette changed that).

Megadeth (dave's vocals always annoyed me. then i heard the live 1990 wembly bootleg on the rust in peace tour and it finally clicked).

Judas Priest (my friend always jammed them and i hated it. eventually hearing "the sentinel" was what made me see the power of the priest.

Kiss (never could get into them. thought gene and paul were douchey. but after a while and listening to Alive it became a no brainer that they write some of the best melodies in rocknroll).

Ramones (one of those bands every one sucked their cocks and shoved in my face constantly growing up... but then you realize theres a reason for that. because they are truly one of the best american bands period).

Nirvana (same thing as the Ramones. but theres a real ugly beauty to the way kurt played and sang. awesome tone and again... it all comes back to his amazing ability to write a melody out of some of the dumbest lyrics... in a good way)

Well, just like OP, I had some problem with KD's vocals when listening to Mercyful Fate / King Diamond, but when I attempted to their music second time he has become one of the most favorite vocalists in metal generally.

I also had some troubles with my first attempt to DEMILICH's "Nespithe", but after few minutes into i got totally sucked in by the music and, same as in Diamond's case, these crazy Finns are now probably somewhere among my top 10 Death Metal bands of all time...

You're insane. The one after is by far the weakest in their discography.

Second song of the first album is really cool. Didn't like the rest. Currently just own the split with Profane Creation.

At the time of release, at first listen, I didn't liked Iron Maiden's "Somewhere In Time" - it was sounding strange with all the futuristic production and more proggy spacey sound, etc., but after a few listenings I got the concept and this became my favorite album ever.

If differences in opinion make you insane, then I am fucking mental.

I'm inclined to agree.

Boy, those must have been some really trying and turbulent few minutes! Good thing you were able to finish the first track and make it to the 2nd before giving up...

When I was 12 my dad's good friend who played lead guitar in Ikki Crane (probably only bay area heads will know who they are although ive seen the ikki crane lp in stock in Yosuke' s distro) gave me KD Abigail and of course ikki cranes album too. Kings vocals went way over my head at the time, obviously as the years went by I learned that was the coolest fucking gift anyone ever gave me! Have dug that album for years now

Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, Nevermore, Solitude Aeternus . . . really any band with what I used to deem "annoying high" vocals

Celtic Frost

My first exposure to them was that fucking Vanity/Nemesis bullshit, and my next exposure was Into the Pandemonium (I know some of you like it, I don't, it's trash...)

It took about 3 years before I finally found a copy of Morbid Tales in 1999 or so. That's when the praise that I'd always heard for them clicked.

I still hate everything they've done that isn't Emperor's Return/Morbid Tales, To Mega Therion, or Cold Lake (yep, I like Cold Lake, shut your cock-holster and go cry someplace else), one of the most simultaneously overrated and classic bands of all time in my opinion.
