This band has a massive discography but I only own The Book of Darkness, was wondering how the rest of their discography stacks up against this beast of an album and how they fit into the pantheon of Portuguese bands. They’ve been around since 1990.

I have one LP, the split 12" with Urn and a handful of 7" EPs. But I never thought they were a very good band. About 10-15 years ago they released a lot of stuff through various labels, but it seems that time took hold of them.

If I am totally wrong, please recommend me a recent release of them and I will gladly check it out.

I consider The Book Of Darkness a great release and there’s some old Aussie zine I have that gave it a great review back then, pretty much forgot about it until I came across this album that’d been lying around in an Australian distro for christ knows how long.

It looks like all of their releases are available on bandcamp, so you can just stream each one of them and decide whether you like it or not. Hail technology!

Very good early Samael-style Black Metal, at least the early stuff. The Conjuration Of The Southern Circle / The Seven Seals EP & Resurrectionem Mortuorum / In Lustful Mayhem EP get some spins here. Demon Blade LP was my introduction to the band, includes some of their best tracks IMO.

I like their early releases, very good death/black metal with a strong Bathory-touch. Their latter albums are okay but they've repeated the same trick far too many times.

This.
"The Conjuration of the Southern Circle" is savage and criminally overlooked IMHO.

I actually started having some interest in them after seeing their amazing performance at Barroselas Metal Fest in 2008. Their two albums from 2008 and 2010 are actually very good, if you like their latest sound, so closer to Sodom, Bathory and with more of a punkish vibe.

But their old and more Black Metallish stuff is great. I like a lot "Resurrectiónem Mortuórum".
