A lot of labels are pressing records limited to 150, 100 or even less. But how does that work exactly? Most pressing plants work with runs starting from 250 - 300. Does someone know what pressing plants are used for these small runs?

Erika?

Or they're lying and actually pressing 300 at a time and holding some back for "represses"?

Print 300, claim 150 limitation, mark two lots 1-150, sell one through webshop, slowly release the others through discogs over a few months at inflated price claiming 'first press'.

I get 150 copies pressed. I have the option of going lower, but a certain point, you'd have to sell each record for $50 just to break even.

We pressed 200 copies of Tenebrae in Perpetuum albums but it has been bloodly expensive so I've no idea about how someone can afford 100 copies. PP can even press 100 vinyls but you will pay covers, inserts, labels as if you press 500 copies so the cost per copy is really high.

Sometimes the plant will charge you an under 500 or under 300 fee or whatever. Some plants also specialize in lower runs.

obviously recording cost and desired profits can change things....

But with costs like 700 or so to get up to stampers, 100 for test pressings , 150 for black and white stickers and inserts, 250 for shipping, 150 for a small run fee,, youre at 13.50$ per unit on the vinyl. Add in 550 for a simple jacket and youre at 19$ each on a 100 unit run. The economics of pushing that to 150 are trivial. About another $100. So then your unit cost is down to 13.50 each. That seems like a real good break even point on something you want super limited.

A plant in Australia that I've used before have a 7" deal that's real affordable for a small label, 150 black records, black and white cover and non coloured centre labels for just over $1,000 which is cool.

They've been good and done other deals with labels I know of just wanting like 100 LP's pressed or something like that, some places can make it work but bigger places like Pirates Press or United probably wouldn't go anywhere near something like that.

This guys can do short runs, no minimum as far as I know, but obviously the price/unit is higher when you go lower quantities.
