I hope they play old stuff, because after Fatherland it went downhill very fast. I have seen them once around the Dim Carcosa period, and that was awfull.

Last time I saw them was 14 years ago. And that was enough not to attend any Ancient rites concerts for 14 years at least...

Would love to see Lugubre and Varathron. Someone needs to bring Lugubre to the states. I like Ancient Rites regardless of their last few albums.

Varathron was the best show at the last NWN!fest for me, so I might go if I don't have to work that day.

Saw them live 2 years ago and it was a total disappointment. One song from Diabolic ("Land of Frost and Despair", so not even a real memorable one), none from Blasfemia(!!), 2 from Fatherland... and apart from the horrible setlist, they had no passion at all. I saw them a lot in the late 90ies and even early 2000's and they used to be awesome.

Just check the setlist for yourself: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ancient-rites/2015/zaal-kerelsplein-roeselare-belgium-43f58fdb.html

Then it would be best if Ancient Rites plays last so you can go home early Smile

Saw Ancient Rites in 2016. Don't remember the setlist but I do remember that they weren't the best band of the night. I found it a bit boring a the set progressed.

Ancient Rites is a matter of taste of course. Personally I'm a big fan of the later albums. But even if you don't like them musically, you have to respect this band for still having their own face and writing more than excellent historical and philosophical lyrics nowadays, instead of going for mainstream, all appealing empty shit.

I do like (respect?) Ancient Rites for their early work. But that doesn't mean I would like to torture myself to go and see them, only because I like their very old stuff. That just doesn't make sense.

Varathron - the abyssic black cult - is one of the cornerstones in the history of Hellenic black metal, of which we are long time fanatics. In 2013 we presented Rotting Christ playing an exclusive show of old material - now we have invited country mates Varathron for their first ever (!) Benelux concert. Their legendary albums "His majesty at the swamp" and "Walpurgisnacht" are epic masterpieces and just as essential as "Thy mighty contract", "Eosforos" and "Crossing the fiery path". Varathron is eager to perform a headlining set of 75 minutes that will be shaped by many classics as well as new abysmal creations from the upcoming album "Patriarchs of evil". Come and witness the forefathers of greek black metal summoning the ancient spirits!
