do you guys have any favorite atmospheric bm records that barely use keyboards to emulate choirs, strings, brass, etc.? there must be some pretty outstanding examples that don't rely on this standard formula. post 'em if you know 'em.

Does Forgotten Woods and Bergtatt era Ulver count as "atmospheric"? Maybe those if so.

this is a tough question, since I personally consider most black metal influenced by the early scandis to have atmosphere

I feel stupid for plugging the band all the time here but Inferno's Gnosis Kardias fooled a lot of people into thinking that the band employs keyboards, even though all the soundscapes were created with a guitar. Heavy dose of atmosphere in there as well, though I'm not sure if that's the record you are searching for.

last two Inferno albums are amazing

them, Acherontas, Lux Caelis; all do a great job of incorporating organic psychedelia

I believe Sorcier Des Glaces left the keys behind on his last 2 albums and explicitly made efforts to emulate them with guitars.
