Netherlands-based death metallers ASPHYX check in with the following update:
"Sweden's Dan Swanö will mix the upcoming Asphyx album entitled Death...The Brutal Way. The album is recorded in the Sonic Assault studio and engineered by Frank Klein Douwel, who is also the live sound-mixer of Asphyx. The new album will be Asphyx' heaviest so far for sure. We know, that's a cliché, but it's simply true and if we say this, you bet it's the truth. Some titles: 'Death...The Brutal Way', 'Cape Horn', 'Der Eisenbahnmörser', 'Scorbutics', 'Riflegun Redeemer', 'Black Hole Storm', 'Asphyx II', '(They Died As They Marched)'. The album will be released in May/June this year by Century Media records. War Anthem records will release the LP version. Linear notes will be presented by Martin (Van Drunen - vocals)." |

Dan did a great job on HAIL OF BULLETS, so I'm sure this will sound crushing! _________________ -Patrick (CRYPTICUS)

I wish the album had a different title. |

I prefer the sound of their promo. Far better and less modern. That HoB Lp's sound crushed the expectations I had towards the album.
Let's hope for a better result, when dealing with Asphyx.
Concerning the title...well...we'll have to take it, even if it sounds completely stupid...
And further, that song "Death the Brutal Way" has really un-asphyxish lyrics, annoying ass fuck.
Let's hope for at least 90% of a real Asphyx album...otherwise they'll be finally dead for many. |

I agree with Bill about the title. I don't mind it as a title, but with a release already out under that name, it seems a bit stupid to release something different with the same name.
I didn't mind the lyrics for the song though, I wouldn't want it all the time, but I don't think there's anything wrong with having an anthem!
My only worry is the sound, I hope it will be raw like the 7", and earlier releases and not the triggered to death, polished Trivium production that Hail of Bullets had. |

I agree with this. I liked the HOB record regardless, but it didn't live up to my high expectations upon hearing the promo, and the difference in production is a big reason why. And that production would be even less appropriate for Asphyx!
That said, I still have high hopes for this record... _________________ Basar North America / Promethean Burn: http://www.thebasar.org/NorthAmerica |
