I also agree that Flesh Cathedral and Synthesis are the only good stuff they did. Especially Flesh Cathedral where they did 4 songs total almost 60min, where here there will be 6 probably shorter songs (at least this one is). It will be single LP I believe. And the cover is just terrible imo.

Wait, this album has been in works for couple of years now right? So its safe to assume that there should be some input from Nokkvi nonetheless. Either way, I belong to the "Flesh Cathedral/Synthesis" uber alles camp, but this single sounds way better than the relatively bland "Untitled" EP, so bring it on.

Awesome new song! These guys have the feeling for making weird yet catchy songs - for me they are one of the few bands in this ''disonant'' black metal style with actual good songwriting. Judging by this song alone, I already know the album will DELIVER BIG TIME!

I don't know what's with all the ''production/sound'' talk - are you all sound engineers/producers and that's just your profesional deformity Laughing The sound is pure Svartidaudi-style, cleaner or rawer, mixed this way or that way does not change the Song. This band is experienced enough to deliver Svartidaudi experience every time, no matter the production/mixing changes.

haha, I agree. Having said that I only listened to it once ( through fairly good speakers though I might add). Will listen and see if I can hear all these issues that a couple of you guys seem to hear?! Anyway, my initial response was that it was a great song!

Sorry to off-topic, but what do people think about Sinmara, in terms of production?

Going to re-listen to temple of deformation, Synthesis.., .Unortheta , Tabernaculum, The feral wisdom & maybe Aphotic womb. Then not listen to any dissonant, occult -triangular- serpent -chalice- Icelandic ( or related) black metal until the new Svartidaudi comes out (at least). Or ever again.

No input from him.

I've given the new album 4-5 spins already and I have no choice but to admit my disappointment.

"Burning Worlds…" and "Aureum Lux" are up there among their best work, but the rest of the album is just unconvincing. It's not a bad release by any means, but many of the arrangements feel interchangeable and it's clear that they're just riding the whole dissonance thing at this point, with little else happening. Very few epic riffs that made "Flesh Cathedral" such a monumental release.

2018 is a year of let-downs, definitely…

Listening to it, there's no riffs. Just dissonance. Absolute let down.

I kind of agree, there were several moments in the album when I found myself feeling like I was listening to an Acherontas album Laughing Particularly, Reveries of Conflagration, it was so weird to listen to a 9 minute song and immediately when it ended I realized I couldn't remember a single riff from the song. Still a good album, and easily the best album of 2018. Sol Ascending is absolutely majestic!

Nah, Altar of Perversion is in similar style and executed much better and far more ambitiously.

It sounds fine to me.

I find this board very confusing sometimes, people are shitting on this yet were masturbating indecently over the last turd Funeral Mist disappointment.

This is how a discussion forum works. People will have different, various opinions. Just because you don't like Hekatomb doesn't mean that some others will not like it. Laughing If there is some kind of problem with the concept of discussion forum then maybe some personal isolation bubble is better option so no "unwanted opinions" can get through and irritate your mind?

It's not that I'm shitting on them, I just hold them to very high standards. Anyway, I have to listen to the album a couple more times since there's a lot of details to unpack. As I already said, I think e.g. Sol Ascending is fantastic and the clean outro is a cherry on top.

It's a decent album, but perhaps the expectations were too high. Flesh Cathedral came out of nowhere, presenting a complex, punishing listen. There was also a some "mystique" to the band being from Iceland, covering their faces, etc... People like that type of stuff. Inevitably, it was all going to lead to disappointment...
