I like the newer stuff, the drums are more clinical sounding than the old stuff, and the new guy uses more double bass where the old drummers did interesting tom work. But that's my only complaint.

One song on Symmetry In Black sounds a bit like Pantera which isn't a fave, otherwise the new stuff is good.

Kirk Windstein looks more like Billy Joel every time I see him.

Good stuff and would love to see 'em live. Broken Glass is their masterpiece IMO. Lots of great albums otherwise too.

Hell fuckin yay.

Saw them on Sever the Wicked Hand tour, I was too smashed to stand up but I remember not being extremely impressed, but that album was weak. Symmetry in Black was better.

Obedience Thru Suffering and s/t are so ignorantly heavy it’s awesome.

Just bought the s/t on wax tonight. Such a great band, even to this day.

Never cared for Down.

Fucking brilliant band! Nothing wrong with a bit of groove done right. I've been listening to them a lot the last weeks.
The last two albums don't really do it for me but Sever the wicked hand has some insanely heavy riffs.
Agreed on the comment about the drums. They used to be more interesting and organic.

Even Kingdom of Sorrow, Kirk's collab with Jamey Jasta, has some decent tracks but the ones written by Jasta are fucking lame.

Down's "Nola" is their only essential record IMO.

Hail Crowbar, first 4 are essential, the rest is just gravy. good gravy though

After reading this post, I can just picture Kirk covering Billy Joel's big shot on a future record. Laughing

i'd include Odd fellows rest and Sonic excess in the essential list.

As far as Down goes I like the first three. II is actually my favourite because of the variation between the songs. The e.p.'s they've been putting out sound very bland.

Definitely "yea". One of my all-time favorites, and still producing quality stuff. Odd Fellows Rest is definitely my favorite of theirs.

What's the best album to start with? Never had an opportunity to fully check them out, just a song here and there.
