European LP mailers are shit. They do nothing to protect the jackets from corner bends.

That sucks...

For those of you in the US, I found that the boxes used to ship ceramic tile at LOWES & HOME DEPOT work great, they are 13" x 13" & about 3 inches or so thick, and, as they are meant to hold 8 to 10 pounds of fragile ceramic tile they are really heavy cardboard with strong corners...
If you ask they will usually give you some that are lying around for free...

I often think that the employees at the postoffices throw around the packages like frisbees when no one is looking.

DHL tells their employees to take care for packages, they know what driver delivered a certain package.

I know someone who worked for UPS, he said that drivers usually throw the packages around when they need to work overhours. They could easily use bulldozers for the same results...

Most of the postal system is automated using huge machines.

Regardless, the baseline understand among everyone who sends records is that the parcels will be mishandled and pack them accordingly. This parcel was obviously not packed well enough to withstand the abuse. I bet 95% of the damages can be avoided if everyone packed records well. Of course you can not account for outliers where damage is not preventable no matter how well it's packed.

Kinda OT: the last several CD trades I have gotten (from reputable labels), the corners of the cases are broken and the spindles are all fucking broken, thus the discs are loose in the cases. I think the post office here must double as fucking soccer players.

I wish, but the damage is even worse than it looks in the pictures.
