Bah...
The first time I put on an album I'm looking forward to, it's not going
to be through my harddrive for fucks sake.

I agree.
I'm going to be an old bitter bastard and refuse to conform to Ipods, MP3's, or this supposed CD replacement even of that little digital stick. Compact Discs is the line in the sand, it ends there for me. Fuck downloads and lifting albums months before hand.
I want the magic back I remember from my teenage years and early twenties.

Thoroughly disappointed with this album. The riffs vary from pretty good to mediocre to complete shit, the leads sound like showboating trash and don't compliment the song or riff underneath, and the frenzied, aggressive guitar work is completely missing.
The drum work is obviously top notch, but who cares when you can just listen to any of their other stellar albums?

My two cents as a big fan of this band:

-cleanest production so far... I personally would have preferred a slightly dirtier sound.

-heavier reliance on keyboards. While they were well done it was strange to hear them this high in the mix.

-best drum sound on an Absu album so far, however the drumming itself wasn't as inventive as it was on previous albums. Sounded more straightforward, like his work in Melechesh.

-Proscriptors best vocal performance, its a bit deeper than before.

-stunning cover art.(Verwimp is among the elite)

-Overall it was a very good album with Absu taking a slightly different direction although I still personally prefer the black thrashing perfection that is Tara.

UPDATE
So.... had Absu's discography going random on my Ipod, and everytime a song off the new cd came on my face would just be: Confused

It's not that it's bad(well I heard some fruity singing part I hadn't noticed before that was pretty bad)... just it's lost something. Perhaps thier weakest effort.

Wow ... good to know that I'm not alone in my displeasure. I'm going to give it another go today just to solidify my thoughts, but for the most part I was heavily unimpressed!

It sounds like this record was written by way too many different people who were not on the same page. Who seem to not have any idea what this style warrants .. which is most likely due to the fact that there are 3 completely unknown musicians on this album who seem to have very little experience.

I was looking forward to this album VERY MUCH!!! sigh

I had the same impression like you guys but... I've listened to it today at work, like 3 times in a row and it started to grow. Of course, this is not Absu as we knew the band from their old albums (Killer Tara...). Production is clean, the riffs are very death metal at places and I think it would be great album if this wasn't Absu. I bet many people would like it a lot if this was recorded under another band name.

Melechesh maybe?

Didn't listen to it yet enough to tell any real opinion. I need time, but first impression was OKAY and actually what I have imagined: ABSU with modern 2009 sound.

I like the album and will buy it right away when it's out. They managed to not repeat themselves and still made a unique album. It's definitely not Tara, but that's what I like about it. Can live without a Tara part II ... Wink

It is a killr album, they obviously evolved and the change in band members has an effect, but on it's own it is very good, and the production is probably their best, specially a great drum sound. I am awaiting for the digipak to arrive, but will also get the vinyl...is that pic disc version still going on?

MO of the album: not that good. some good songs. but the whole album, not that good. I think they bit off more than they can chew.
