Someone asked for the PN's setlist, here is what I remember :

-Casse, Pêches, Fractures et traditions
-Paysages Mauvais
Not sure at all about the sequence for this :
-Payés sur la Bête
-Deuil Angoisseus
-Le Dernier Putsch
-666 Millions d'esclaves et de déchets
-Rance Black Metal de France
-La Blonde
-Le Mort Joyeux
-Chevrotine cover ( "l'Épée en Main " )

They finished their set with two songs from the Vouïvre EP.
I guess I have forgotten some songs.

I am not a M8L8th fan but their pictures suited very well their songs (some kind of animated movies with knights, horned riders, Stukas...).
To see both Peste Noire and Absurd was a killer. People were too quiet on Peste Noire though. Now I am very curious to hear new Absurd's material.

I guess there's a language barrier concerning Peste Noire. I have seen them in France (Call of Terror) and Italy (Hot Shower) this year, and people were of course way less static in France. Same goes for every band playing outside their country of origin (besides English written stuff ofc).

Does anybody seriously like M8l8th? That shit is pathetic.

I know this is not popular band here, but I'm really surprised about this opinion and other no so positive about this band. Once heard a song from last album and enjoyed it, then bought some stuff, give it time and second album (Непоколебимая вера / Unbreakable Faith) is for sure my favorite. Checked lyrics - related also to metaphysical stuff. Its also much more in classic black metal vein than the popular "Black March Saga". Now, after the concert can say its also great live band, been in mosh-pit on every song - but no idea how it would works in western Europe. I beat many people just don't like clean vocals in russian...

I was talking about the war with Russia and the situation in the country's Eastern part. Did you forget the recent annexion of Crimea? Has an armistice been signed?

Crimea and Downbass are far away from Kiev and they're currently suffering a Transdnister-styled scenario. The rest of Ukraine is far safer than most of the west nowadays, definitely safer than most of France, and for the most part Ukraine is cheap to the extent that even people from Russia, Romania or Hungary can feel themselves great with a minimum amount of money.
Ukraine does have a huge problem with its dwindling labour force (as millions flock to Russia or Poland), but then again, it's a specific thing for all of Eastern Europe.
The only cheap theatre at the time in Kiev was Sakashvili's rather pathetic march, but it was harmless and merely a cheap stunt.

Also, Belarussians tend to exaggerate their "success story", considering Belarus has a provincial-Russian level of HDI and GDP - and even that is largely because of Russian subsidies.

As a guy from the very heart of that region I am absolutely ok with "Downbass" spelling.

I'm very happy that the show went well. I would've liked to attend but ultimately it was not in the cards for me. I hope to see Peste Noire, M8L8TH, and Absurd someday (seeing Goatmoon a second time would be fantastic as well).

This isn't to sound like a counter-tough guy, but I wouldn't mind seeing critics of M8L8TH live in their situation and try to come out on top. There's a serious physical, mental, and political strength which comes with what they do. They're by no means a band which only thrives due to convenience, unlike the armchair black metal musicians whose greatest existential threat is waiting an extra 45 seconds at a traffic light.

Give credit where credit is due.

The Brodsky synagogue (the largest one in Kiev actually) was right in front of the club where this took place. It was definitely amusing and quite a number of participants weren't shy, behaviour-wise, in their displays when taking this into consideration (quite the opposite!)

Yeah I was there too, great club by the way.

Concerning Moloth, it is not that much about russian vocals, it is just about vocals who does not fit the music at all.
Some riffs are ok, even great but especially the second guy singing was so false it was ridiculous.

Was M8l8th's By the Wing of Black supposed to see a vinyl reissue soon?

I didn't even notice there was a synagogue Confused

To write a few words about the festival:
Burshtyn: I only heard the last song (Dub Buk cover) but it sounded good.
Naer Mataron: Classic black metal, I wasn't that familiar with their music before but I liked it.
M8L8TH: Surprise of the evening. Normally I find their vocals extremely irritating (some songs sound like a teenage hardcore band) and I much prefer ther clean vocals like in Rodnyj Moj Kraj (which would be my favourite song from them). However, live they sounded much better.
Absurd: I'll be honest, I expected more. Their albums have this unique raw, medieval, barbaric atmosphere which makes you feel like raiding a monastery but I couldn't feel that from their live performance. The sound was a bit fucked up too; at the begining I could only hear the drums and some guitar, the vocals were too quiet. Eventually it got better but there's still space for improvement.
Peste Noire: Perfect sound, especially compared to Absurd. Some songs sounded even better than from a CD and I could tell that Famine was having a good time too.
Goatmoon: I've seen them before in Czech Republic but this was much better (I guess it helps if 80+ cops aren't listening to you in front of the venue), together with Peste Noire the best show of the evening; I was surprised that a good few people left after PN.

Kiev: The old socialist flats are depressive as fuck but I really liked the city centre, it wasn't that different from let's say Latvia or Lithuania, only cheaper. Surprisingly good local beer, considering it's not a beer country. I'll certainly be back.

Btw I have some photos from the concert, message me if you want a link. If you're some leftist and want to see some people or details of the venue, don't bother; I only have photos of the bands, nothing you wouldn't be able to see on YouTube.

Please explain this to my wife. She keeps repeating that Ukrainian countryside is crowded with alcoholic unemployed criminals who raid all houses in the neighbourhood to steal everything. And she says the same about Belarus and Russia outside Minsk, Moscow and St Petersburg.
