I would recommend old acts like The Ghost, Monument, Wicked Lady, Plus, Iron Claw, Presence,
Newer stuff: L' impero delle Ombre, Orthodox. Great Coven, Grave Cross, Daemonia _________________ cry out for metal |

Going for the obvious, but no mention of ROKY ERICKSON yet? Well, now there is. |

Newer band called Blood Ceremony might be of interest. Doom rock of the Witchcraft/Pentagram variety mixed with Coven or old Jethro Tull. Female vox, and lots of flute. Pretty cool stuff (if you don't mind the flute!).
Oh yeah, and I just got Roky Erickson's "The Evil One" over the weekend and can't stop listening to that album. So incredible, really creepy lyrics from a truly disturbed mind and super catchy hard rock. Just an awesome album, kudos for mentioning that one! |

Nobody mentioned Pagan Altar.
I'd actually add Zeppelin to this list because of all of Page's occult ties, which are of great interest I think. That first record came out a few months before Sabbath's debut and I remember always thinking the riff in "Dazed and Confused" sounded pretty infernal. |

Definitely agree with Endless Morbidity regarding Led Zeppelin. Not sure I've heard anything that comes close to the magickal vibe of "No Quarter". That song really does something for me. Page is personally a huge influence on my playing, songwriting and plagiarism.
I see that Danzig was mentioned and while I am an obsessive fan of retarded proportions, the aura that Samhain exuded was just pure concentrated blackness. Hearing "Initium" at twelve years old quite possibly ruined my life. _________________ NightBitch.org

Great album! One the highlights of 2008 for me.

I've been a practicing Thelemite for nearing 9 years, and I have only found a handfull of bands that actually know what they are talking about. Everything else is just for attention, and the look. I have found alot of great Occult influence in the "Avant Folk" scene, such as Brothers of The Occult Sisterhood, Egypt Is The Magick Number and The Tower Recordings. _________________ Pure Stench Forums: Noise, Power Electronics, Noisecore, Metal, etc. |
