Tapes were Ok for demos...but they just dissappear from the last car models...I no longer have a tape player on my SUV...so if I want to listen to some tapes, I need my old walkman connected to the AUX...which means more cables/batteries...and then it is the chewing tape issue, which happens once in a while, no matter how good is the tape player...I think that CrO2 tapes have a very good sound...they were easy to handle and to care...vinyls and CD's need more .

Yes, demos belong on tapes. I like to have albums on vinyl.

Cassettes are a great medium and like anything if you have a shit deck you get a shit sound. Car decks being one of the harshest on your tapes.

I like this format and collect tape LPs also, but I rather play the vinyl. I dont mind the well known tape rustle in the background, it's like the little pops and cracks on the vinyl, it adds something to the music for me. I also like this format from the appearance. I always fear I'll get tape salat though

what do you mean with "tape rustle"? the only downside I experienced with tapes is hiss.

anyway, quality tapes dubbed on proper equipment will last forever. I have rehearsals which are stored on tape for 20 or 25 years, and they sound like recorded yesterday. whereas many new tapes done by amateur traders on crap tapes die within a year.

I'm sure most of the interest in vinyl is the artwork and physical appeal of the larger format.
Tapes are great for the car floor, quite durable. However these little electronic USB plug and play album chips things will trump the cassette tape in that regard soon as well.

All this argument about sound quality, how many people really notice a difference truthfully ? At 33 years old and several summers on a motorcycle and my entire adult life working in machinery related industry I will admit my hearing will never notice a difference between MP3, Vinyl, Cassette, or CD formats.

In fact any idiot who claims to hear a difference between vinyl and CD should meet a scientist as they would be very much interested in him and his organs.

Tapes are meant to be cheap. I'd pay more for an exceptional demo that was released before I hit puberty, but still not a whole lot. It's good to have older friends who can dub shit you wernt born in time for.

Do you actually believe that there's no difference between formats in terms of sound?

99% of all metal tapes go for such ridiculously low prices. I bought a batch of thrash tapes for a mere $2 each a few months back. On the other hand, if you have Bone Awl tapes, these things go for quite a bit on eGay.

Tapes rule but they do get very worn out over time and repeated listens.
