A little shameless self-promotion:

I have copies of the new cd by MANIA "Ultra-Negative" on Freak Animal. $12ppd in the US/$13ppd Canada (Elsewhere should contact the label).

Harsh electronic-vocal-junk metal abuse from TX.

Thank You,

I didn't read all the responses so I'm not sure if these have been put out there already but I would say the most enjoyable (hmm, weird word to describe noise) is Grunt, Anenzephalia, Sick Buildings, IRM, and Fuck, The Retarded Girl.

Can someone define these "sub-genres" (PE, Harsh-Noise, Terror EBM, Wall-Noise, whatever)? When I think of Noise I think of one general genre with a cluster-fuck of sounds, with very little use of the usual structures that make up "traditional" music, and consistent with the manipulation of normal sounds, and beats to produce non-organic, abstract sounds. Either way, I try to keep clear of music that is just "being weird" for the sake of "being weird".

No surprise if one considers how you call yourself on this board.

Yes, I would appreciate that, too. Maybe also linking to good examples for the specific genre.

Some people on the Martial/Neofolk thread said they were into Boyd Rice. As far as I know, his early work is considered to be Noise, but he also did other stuff, like Ambient or collaborations with Death in June. Some of that stuff is on his homepage, I think.
And for those who are interested, there is an old interview with Boyd Rice on YouTube, but they never mention Noise there, but talk about Industrial:

Part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcPwv3n_vLk
Part two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7L6yXcwhuA
Part three: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YueectEWOk

And to those who want to piss me off for posting this (see Martial thread, for example), save your time.

Since there is also a sludge thread I thought I'd mention the band Mouthus who combine abrasive guitar noise and drums, creating a noisy sludge sound. I highly recommend them.

@Distinguish to Kill

Boyd Rice is "Industrial", not "Noise". The Musical Influences
of both are not really such different of the first view, but the
Intention behind it makes some differences for example.
He is one of the "First Generation" Industrial Acts along
with Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazazza or Cabaret Voltaire.
In the Past Time the Musical differences were not so much
Categorised like today.

Huge fan of No Wave stuff like early SWANS, Throbbing Gristle, Killdozer, Psychic TV, etc.

Need to get more into Noise. I'll check out most of the recommendations here!

SPK have done some great stuff. The "Despair" DVD was pretty bleak stuff.

While we are on the Industrial thread, thought i'd resurrect this thread to run concurrently as well Laughing

Anyone care to give a simple yet understandable description of the differences in sound/styles for the numerous Noise projects/bands mentioned in the earlier replies? I've only ever listened to Merzbow & Masonna so am not sure if the others sound like them or vice versa?

one of my old friends ran a noise label called EPICENE. he put out my noise project "bet hell" but most people have it listed as "bethell"....track it down if you can. he turned me onto some weird shit...

Scissor Shock
Infidel Castro
Scutopus
Sword Heaven
Hum Of Druid

most of that stuff is harsher, but on the topic, i can dig some noise when the mood hits.
