What is the general opinion of this album? I personally never thought it was as bad as a lot of people make it out to seem. The vocals, especially the clean operatic ones is what hurts it the most I think. But aside from that this album is really not bad at all. The opening track is awesome.

I got to pick up the box eventually. By the time I have the cash the die-hard will be sold out, which is too bad cause that pic LP looks awesome.

I actually really like the first track of that album... the one WITH the operatic styled vocals. Think it was a bold move for Mystifier and something instantly different. I wished more of the album was like that. It's the only detail I really remember... other than thinking as a whole the release was quite uninspiring.

Guess that's the thing about moves such as that, people love them or hate them... there's no ambivalence.

The Album is quite good, but not that Occult and Dark as their older stuff.

I don't get why people don't like it. It's not as good as the first two albums, but it's not such a radical departure.

I wonder what Peter Ott will write about it if he sees this threat, hehe.

I don't like the operatic vox. It's a bold move but for me, at least, it doesn't work. It's too hard to get past that to enjoy any of the rest.

Top 10 Shit List due to the vocals. I mean, it's funny incorporating such things in music, but not if you are hitting constantly the wrong tones like on this one. Sometimes he is exactly a half-tone away which is horrible for the ears...

I see that you checked out my top 10 lists Wink

So the general opinion is the same as mine. I don't like the vocals much, but I guess not enough to hate the record. Song wise it's I like it. Some of the keyboards are a bit too much at times as well. They should of been used more sparingly.

I actually never heard Profanus, despite liking all the material prior.

It's odd that there are some bands who's early record(s) I think are fucking great, but some later albums by them don't interest me at all. It's not even a matter of hearing bad reviews or one or two tracks I didn't like or anything. I'm just not interested to bother.

This is especially true with a lot of Death Metal. I like the first, maybe second albums too by Unleashed, Immolation, Incantation, etc....but I have zero interest in hearing the shitload of ones they put out since. Maybe it has to do with the fact I'm sure it's just more of the same. We all know DM doesn't really allow too much room for keeping it interesting and most bands are pretty fucking cookie cutter.

Seconded! I don't see a problem with it myself! They couldn't have bettered the style they played on Goatia, so moving on was the best thing they could have done. I think the operatic vocals were a really cool addition, and even if they're not brilliantly performed, they're not that bad, and anyway - they're only on one track!
