I don't have high hopes for the new Asphyx either. At least they're probably still killer live.

New Asphyx should be alright... What are your thoughts on Hail Of Bullets?

Seems like a lot of bands run out of steam after 1 or 2 records
Nocturnus
Malevolent Creation
Emperor
Mahyhem
Kataklysm - anything after temple
Grave
Unleashed
Samael - anything after ceremony

I agree. I'm getting really tired of these combacks. Ironically I was listening to Consuming Impulse over the weekend and thinking about how it could never be done today.

I did like Hail of Bullets, so I may check out the Asphyx but pass on this along with just about every other reunited thrash band.

It was a bit too clean for my taste in death metal. Not the worst thing in the world, but nothing I want to hear more than once.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Mameli belittled Pestilence's fanbase in an interview with MTV just around the time "Spheres" was released? If there is can anyone post it online?

Yes, I still have that video-tape of that Headbangers Ball series. It was not against their own fans only, but if my memory serve me well, about metaloids in general, hehe.

I had discussion about that already years ago with Wannes, hehe.

At any time in future I really want to digitalize my video-tapes, but I need time and money to buy some needed stuff to do that (in fact I have no clue how to do that, besides buying some fukkin expensive dvd/v-tape hybrid *whatever name it might have* blabla, which I do not want to spend money on at the moment).

I remember something a while back about Mameli giving shit to death metal as a whole and himself being over it. So now he see's money in it again, what a cock wrangler! One album i'll not touch with a ten foot pole.

I was expecting great things on the Hail of Bullets full length after the MLP but was extremely disapointed. One album i regret buying.

Now for Asphyx, I was dissapointed with the new song on 7", rehashed riffs, how can the new upcoming album be any good without Eric Daniels writing the riffs? A mighty band that should be let to rest in peace.

Mameliīs "giving shit" started in 1993 already, I remember one interview in Rock Hard, distancing himself from the music etc...

Man, his bitching was SO ridiculous, plus all the self glorifying about how progressive "Spheres" would be - especially when one considers the only big "technical" feat of said album is using guitar synthezisers like keyboards, haha. One of the Atheist guy referred to that album as a "piss-poor attempt at technicality".

The last time I read he stressed he was "over" Death Metal" was in some 2003 or 2004 interview with him about C-187.
I think it is bloody obvious he tries to get his little share of cash related to the re-emergence ol old bands as nobody wanted to listen to his other crap music.

masters_throne should really digitalize those shows, hehe!
Isnīt there any other way than buying a hybrid player? Ah well, I have no clue of that stuff either.

As for Asphyx - yes, definitely still a killer act live, one has to see how the new album will turn out.

I don't care about this release. I assume that it's a huge pile of crap.

Yep that album cover is total crap

I always find it interesting how some bands work backwards,
promos-> artwork-> recording the music
usually a good indicator that the release will suck arse

He thinks spheres was technical? That takes balls, seeing there were bands
like Cynic, Athiest, and Death around. As for recent stuff, I can't stand those unique leader bands, but the bar for technicality has risen so far, he better have some badass tricks up his sleeve.

Yep, he obviously thought it would be miles ahead of other bandīs efforts... even more laughable than the absurd claims of Deicide after having released "Legion".

I actually liked the production. It was very clean in the sence that all the instruments were well defined and easily heard. Yet the guitars had an incredibly powerful and gritty tone. I liked Martins vocals but I found myself often wondering what Willets would have sounded like on the vocals since Bolt Thrower is the standard that I measure war themed death metal against. The production sounded "powerful" and almost "mechanical" which I thought meshed well with the war theme of the album/band. But you know, to each his own.

Perhaps, but I think it holds more promise than the new Pestilence.

I forgot Legion. I play that album once a week. Benton stated they make play that entire album live on the next tour.
