These might bring out some of those subtle nuances.

I just dont see how the human ear can detect such a difference.
Even with music where dynamics change so much like jazz, classical etc.
My system consists of a JVC reciever, hooked to a project turntable
with a middle of the line ortofon cartridge, and some acoustic research speakers.

I guess my ears are not sophisticated enough, but if you put the 10.000 dollar cartridge against my 100.00 one, I could not tell the difference.

It is like with the latest TV sets...unless you are born an eagle hybrid or something you can tell the damn difference...it is all marketing...my "battle" turntable ia Fisher one, which I just bought the stylus for around US $10 and through my PC speakers it sounds very good...

You got that right. It is a marketing tool. I had an audio technica, that finally kicked the bucket when the motor gave out, so I bought a turntable that was slightly higher in price, just for longevity purposes.
Both sound the same. I listen to a lot of music through a Radio Shack
clock radio/cd player.
All of this High def Plasma wing wang blipity bloo bam bam bell and whistle shit is ridiculous. Put the fucking record on the cheap ass turntable and play that shit for the music.
