Is the Anthrax logo on the first pressing (1984) of "Fistful Of Metal" on Megaforce Records in red or in pink?
There seem to exist two versions, one with the logo in pure red and one with a rather pink logo.

I am referring to the real first pressing without a barcode on the backcover.
Thereīs also a Megaforce re-press with barcode which definitely has the logo in red.

The copy I have has Anthrax in red lettering without a bar code on the back of the outer sleeve,
"Fistful of Metal" in red on the back of the outer sleeve.

I did not buy this record when it was released -- probably two years later.

My copy has red lettering, no barcode, and "Sterling" is not in the runout. Instead, in addition to the etched "MRI 469-A", my copy is stamped with "Mastered by Frankford/Wayne New York" and etched "Ē" along with "Emw" in script.

I'm guessing that this is not the first, but later, press.

/nerding.

I have an early Megaforce pressing with pink logo. It doesn't have any barcode, the original matrix numbers are engraved and it sounds fantastic. Until today, there is simply no CD version available which captures the sound of the original LP.

Exactly!

But it seems indeed to be the case, there were 2 early Megaforce pressings of this record. One with pink and one with red logo.
And apparantely each pressing was mastered by different studios. One by Sterling Sound NYC (pink logo) and the other by Frankford/Wayne Mastering NYC (red logo).

I just checked my copy and I was wrong. My copy has red logo and a barcode. Matrixes are:

MRI-469-A / Mastering by Frankford Wayne New York / Emw (handwritten)
MRI-469-B / Emw (handwritten)

I am sure these are really early stampers and the sound is outstanding.

I'm not expert but I think the first press simply doesn't have the title on the back cover and their logo is pink.

Shitty pic I found online.

This particular version is a re-press because of the barcode on the backcover (upper right corner). The seller is wrong regarding his description "first press".

Morbiddeceiver is right, the very first press seems to have the pink logo and no title nor barcode on the backcover. I didnīt notice that before. Then thereīs the pressing with red logo and title on the back but still no barcode. And finally a third pressing with red logo, title as well as barcode on the back.

Thank you for clarification. So I suspect my pressing could probably be a 1986/1987 edition ??? By the way: I like the red logo much more...

Yes that is what I am trying to figure out. I think itīs safe to say your version was pressed also during the 80ties, most probably 1986 or 1987 as you say.

BTW, now I am not sure anymore which version exactly I heard once.
But most likely all three of them sound great and way better than any later version.

And yes, the pink logo looks inept. I guess thatīs why they changed that for the represses.

I sort of have the one Knucklehead mentions.

Red lettering, Logo on back cover, no barcode, etched "MRI 469-A", but it is etched F/W Ē along with Emw on another spot in the deadwax

I assume the F/W means Frankford/Wayne but nowhere is it spelled out in the dead wax.

I see I also have an original picture disc and it has the Sterling stamped in the dead wax, along with MRI matrix. This picture disc is interesting, I never noticed that besides saying 'Made in England" on the front, nowhere does it say anything about MFN. I have the MFN lp version too and of course the MFN logo is on the sleeve..

I think this is the one I have. I'll have to take a look.

Great fucking record! I'm not at all into their other recordings, though.

I assume that I have this exact same release -- no barcode, red logo, etc. The memories are really hazy, but I'm guessing I bought it during that timeframe and not before.
