All the earlier BBH releases were gold!

Essentials (in my opinion)

Forest - first album s/t , Like a Blaze.
All Forest stuff is great, but these two stand out the most for me.

Branikald - To Kampf & Stormheit for me are Kaldrad's finest works with Branikald. Although i don't think he's made a bad album with Branikald yet.

Ravendark - All.
probably on a whole the strongest project of BBH.

Nitberg - All except "Nagelreid"
Honestly i think Nagelreid is shyte..many may disagree but i don't feel it fits into the sound of Nitberg. I was so convinced of this i got rid of it 2 days after i bought it.

Rundagor - Unfortunately only know what is on the compilation tape.
Suffice to say it's very strong material.

Vargleide - To me sounds like a cross between mid era Forest and mid era Branikald. (this obviously isn't a bad thing)

I can't even choose a favorite..all of these circles and their bands satisfy very specific needs for me as a listener. Though I will say that I listen to the Portuguese circle more than the LLN these days....

I just gave Branikald's Rdjandalir a proper listen. It is not bad, but it certainly is not great either. "Limited" is a word that describes it well.

Obviously not the most ideal stuff to listen after Watain and Reinkaos.

TTF and the Black Legions were the most important in terms of influence (if not always for good) and historical importance. BBH used to be awesome in 90s, but very niche.

BPC and the Portuguese scene (not limited to card-carrying Black Circle bands) are among the strongest currently.

I was going to say something similar. It's not candelabra jerking occult wizardry wrapped up in ouroboros either.

As for the poll, BBH for me, no question. Though I'm only familiar with the first 3 scenes, and have no plan to change that.

Perhaps there needs to be a new poll created on which BBH release is the "least ambitious" Wink

I recommend at least looking into the Nidrosian scene. Mare and Celestial Bloodshed are essentials.

Mare is nice/good.
Celestial Bloodshed is a long way from being essential.

Mare is a wanna be Watain with less Dissection influence, aka even worse. Celestial Bloodshed I wouldn't say is essential either.

I don't really see the similarity between Mare and Watain. Watain is fucking lame (they're just a gay, watered down version of Dissection), I'll only listen to Casus Luciferi once in a great while.
