No idea for a clear title, I will edit this later.

Recently I had a question that came to mind. I watched (once again) Don Coscarelli's "Phantasm" (1979), great movie, but also brilliant soundtrack (For those who never heard it, the main theme has been covered by Entombed on Left Hand Path, Tormentor.... check it out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h21Q-bOOsos ).

I checked Discogs in hope to find the original soundtrack on whatever format, and here comes the trouble. Unaffordable prices, despite recent LP reissues, many CD versions etc...

OST's are often rare items, and most of them are unique releases never repressed, especially for video-games but movies tends to be the same imo.

Now, for any soundtrack lover around, here's the question:

Where do you get informations for soundtrack reissues, limited releases, etc ? Discogs is not the best for place for this imo, Rate Your Music can get you informed of various upcoming releases from artists you rated, but it's not great either... Other forums maybe ? Which ones ?

Thanks for the tips guys. Cool

Notable record companies within ost-releases I keep an eye on are:

Deathwaltz Records
http://mondotees.com/collections/music?page=1

Waxwork Records
http://waxworkrecords.com

Light In The Attic releases some genuine ones every now and then.

Ost's are expensive, that's just the way it is.

Also:
I just found this, there's also a videogame section:

I usually check this distro called "Two Headed Dog" who offer preorders on a lot of this stuff, or the death waltz forum "Spin the Blackest circles". There's another blog called "blipblopwax" that does VGM vinyl news

Hate the lame reworked cover art on a lot of this stuff though and wish they would use original art or stills or something

Discogs is usually the best place for information but not for buying.
Distros:

Death waltz
Shipping records
One way static
And you can also find a lot of records on Amazon.

I'd buy more soundtracks if they were not that expensive... I only have the Nekromantik and Oldboy soundtracks I think.

Phantasm soundtrack got repressed recently. I saw it at my local store (my minds eye) and had to grab a copy. Sounds sick. I recently found a copy of the Last house on dead end street soundtrack, which gave me An erection right there in the store.

Yeah, i was more saying it is difficult to keep a track on upcoming releases on discogs, most of the time, items are added way after announcements and pre-orders are already over / item is on the market...

That's something i don't exactly understand. 35$ for a cool looking but not especially limited vinyl (If i'm correct there has been more than 500 copies for most versions of the recently repressed Phantasm OST) is quite expensive... Not mentionning the fact most goes sold-out at the speed of light... Confused

"cult" movies aren't underground, they are liked by millions of people. The same with their music, anyone who collects vinyl is likely willing to buy the ost of a movie he/ she likes. Black/ Death metal vinyl releases are only for a small dedicated group of music lovers. The soundtrack-fanbase is wider than that.

I am really hoping that The Dunwich Horror gets reissued. I'm not crazy for soundtracks but I'd cop that in a heartbeat.

I hope they stick to just doing Sega for a while. I can't wait til they do Streets of Rage 3, which they've already confirmed they're working on.

This thread made me check for some Final Fantasy OST on vinyl and I found this:
https://www.discogs.com/Nobuo-Uematsu-Final-Fantasy-Vinyls/release/4614401

Its being sold on ebay for 1600$.....
http://www.ebay.com/itm/FINAL-FANTASY-25th-ANNIVERSARY-Box-with-Games-Vinyls-Books-Ultimate-Collection-/121487264398

I wonder why don't they just repress this stuff.

Also found the Hotline Miami OST on 3LP if anyone is interested (not sure if the label has more soundtracks or not):

They apparently have the OST for a game that has not come out yet that everybody is waiting to either flop or gush over for summer months as well, No Man's Sky. Not sure why they made "a definitive" soundtrack for a game that boasts infinitely generated universes over time, but whatever.
