I was thinking of picking this up (the Black Lotus reissue) but I was wondering - does anyone know why all of the track times are much shorter vs. the original? Is this a pitch correction problem? Looking at the reissue vs. the track times on the Metal Archives (which I assume are from the original), all tracks are shorter, and the longest ones like "The Warlock" are over a minute shorter... it's kind of weird, made me nervous about buying it.

It does speed it up, but it's not too bad when you're listening to it. The mix is considerably louder, which is nice, but the artwork sucks ass. I have both, but tend to pull out the Osmose version more and turn up the volume.

Hmm, interesting. Any way to tell which one is correct? Does one or the other sound like the pitch is more natural? It must be quite a difference in speed for the track length to change that dramatically.

You can definitely hear it, but if you hadn't heard the original before you probably wouldn't notice it. My gut feeling tells me that the Osmose version is the correct one.

Unfortunately the Osmose version is hard to come by. Sad I'm on a quest now to find out the truth about this... wonder how hard it would be to get an answer from the band...

If you get an answer, let me know, now you've made me curious too, haha. If it's any help, when I get home I can upload one version or the other for you.

An original Osmose CD pressing sold for $25 on eBay recently.

I still need to replace a damaged copy. If anyone could help, please PM me. I need this fucking disc and I don't want some bullshit reissue.

the Osmose version is always on eBay. I have the reissue but someone I knew claimed there's really no noticeable different between the two versions.

The BL reissue is awful, avoid it at all costs!
I had both original NECROMANTIA CDs available for trade for almost 4 months and no one got back to me.

I somehow never noticed this.

Which version is on the (semi)recent vinyl reissues? Original speed or the faster version?

I have noticed a speed discrepancy with different versions of Blood Fire Death as well.

If you refer to the version Osmose put out couple of years ago on 300 copies or so, I think it is the replica of the original.
Same cover, same label ...

What's awful about it, apart from the possibly incorrect pitch/speed and the unnecessary cover art change?

it is exactly the new cover art imo. that new crappy photoshopped one beggars all description.

I agree that the art is poor and there was no need to change it (if you're going to introduce a new cover, at least improve on the original). But my main interest is in getting the version of the album that the band intended. If I knew for sure that the pitch was correct on this I would have no problem buying it over the Osmose version, cover art be damned.
