How is it possible that only one of their releases made it to vinyl. Anyone with me on this? One of the greatest bands ever. Period. From old to new it's all amazing.

Early stuff is very Suffocation-like, and their last two albums are really weird avant garde/technical death metal, with lots of bizarre riffs. Actually kind of beyond bizarre - you pretty much have to hear it. Anyway they are a great band despite the silly name.

Quick answer: Yes they really are that good. The first two are similar and the last two are similar. Don't start off with Obscura. It is incredibly diffucult to get into at first. I would just go in order of release.

By the way, the name is not representitive of the music they made. Those first to albums are straight up old school death metal perfection with twisted riffs and amazing songwriting.

I'll give a better analysis of the albums when I have more time.

I agree on the Suffo, but not because I think they sound like them, but because I think they are both that rare case where technical virtuousity meets good songwriting.

Erosion af sanity is an incredible album. Lyrics, subject matter, and music are fucking godly. Just progressive enough to still be brutal
and I really like the production. It's heavy without the scott burns clickety clackety sound. Considered dead is great, but the scott burns production is needed on this one because it fits the music better.
Both dan seagrave covers.
Now for Obscura, that is some bong toking shit. I love complicated death metal, but this makes anything on unique leader, willowtip etc. sound like six feet under. I will admit I love it and just don't get it, if that makes sense.

I've got Considered Dead on vinyl, never really got into that one though. Erosion of Sanity is killer though. Can't stomach the last two though.

Was considering selling Considered Dead - is it worth much?

I sold my Considered Dead CD for over $30 (US) about two years ago, so yeah, I would say the LP might fetch a few bucks.

I got into Gorguts (was always leery of their name, still am) when Obscura (was that really ten years ago, fuck) came out, enjoyed the complete retardation of it and ended up getting all their shit. Then about two years ago I sold all of it for some reason and have kicked myself ever since.

Funny aside; I saw them around the time From Wisdom to Hate came out and Luc Lemay wore and played in a pair of sweatpants, sporting a fanny pack. I cannot make shit like this up...

'Considered Dead' is the best one.

Never got into them or Malevolant Creation.

First 2 albums are classic Florida-styled death metal with thick Scott Burns production. Essential listening.
