I will be traveling to Iceland with my wife in mid August for about 10 days. Probably gonna spend a couple days in Reykjavik and then do the ring road.

Are there any must-see attractions, cool things off the beaten path, record shops, pubs, or shows taking place that can be recommended? I got some great suggestions on here when I went to Ireland and Poland/Czech, so I'm trying it again Wink

Thanks and hails!

I was there for three nights in 2000; I was told to go to the "piano bar", which is apparently big amongst foreigners
was a great way to experience kenya without leaving the hemisphere

I once saw Bjork in concert, listened to Svartidaudi, and watched the Secret Life Of Walter Mitty. Is that of any help?

Almost everything is awesome in Iceland. It's hard to go wrong there.

It's a pretty damn small country though, so yeah ... there's not really a beaten path to walk off unless you go into the center of the country where there are no inhabitants at all. Or to the smaller islands - Flatey / Grimsey.

I once pissed a hole in the ice there when I was 11 years old. 'Twas marvelous!

"Dimmuborgir (dimmu "dark", borgir "cities"[1] or "forts", "castles"); pronounced [tɪmʏpɔrcɪr]) is a large area of unusually shaped lava fields east of Mývatn in Iceland. The Dimmuborgir area is composed of various volcanic caves and rock formations, reminiscent of an ancient collapsed citadel (hence the name). The dramatic structures are one of Iceland's most popular natural tourist attractions."

Go North, stay in Akureyri or Husavik.

If you get a chance, take a dip in Laugardalur pool in Reykjavik. The hot pots were awesome, even better was that I seemed to be the only non-Icelander there on a Sunday morning.

The whole country is amazing. You're bound to be impressed with the ring road alone. A few places whose names I can actually remember / are worth pointing out:

Jokulsarlon

Ţórsmörk

Vatnajokul glacier (all kinds of different spots you can go there)

Myvatn - There is a ton of good shit in this area. Also, a smaller version of blue lagoon with less tourists. A bit buggier than the rest of the country - something worth tolerating as this area is just fucking weird

Ásbyrgi in Jökulsárgljúfur National Park in the north is rumored by locals to be (and obviously truly is) a giant imprint of Sleipnir's hoof. Great spot

...and Dimmuborgir. No choice but to give that one a go, if for no other reason than to pay homage to the greatest black metal band that has ever existed
