You're not a fan of Shades of God!?

Heard a band going after that Gothic vibe once, but it was just a lacklustre clone.. trying to remember what it's called. No one can replicate Greg Mackintosh.

That's a tough one !!
Huge fan of Paradise Lost's albums 'till Draconian times - I don't think that there is another band/album that can deliver the vibe of these two albums - never heard nothing like that....

I hope you don't mean Visceral Evisceration. They ruled.

Try Cemetary: Black Vanity and Godless Beauty for a similar (albeit better) feel.

The only thing that I thought came close to Draconian Times ever, was Septic Flesh - Revolution DNA. I am sure it was intentional as they are pretty influenced by PL.

Check out those leads:

While not nearly as good, Corporal Punishment - Stonefield of a Lifetime is probably the most similar in style to Icon that I've heard. Also, I remember Entwined - Dancing Under Glass sounding a lot like Draconian Times, but I can't really recommend it quality-wise since I sold it ages ago.

I had Black Vanity when it came out and liked it, but lets be real here: Nowhere near as good as PL.

Sweden's Lake of Tears, sound similar to mid Paradise Lost but with an extra touch of Groove.

Wouldn't have the gall to recommend anything lesser. Have a nice time going thru endless stream of '90s goth metal abortions. Razz

I don't like this album but -Down- is fantastic, thanks for the discovery.

I guess you have a point; it doesn't have the shitty, out-of-place, atonal guitar leads as found on Gothic, nor does it have the faux-Hetfield vocals which are center stage on Draconian Times (a good album in its own right, and the only PL album that does anything for me anymore). You should check out those two Cemetary albums again, there's alot to be discovered in the music and lyrics.
