blasphemy fallen angel of doom
carcass reek of putrefaction
repulsion horrified

all basically the same approach / sounds
so yeah grind core / death metal / black metal = bestial sound.

its only now people "look the over way" when it comes to acknowledging grind and its impact on the current landscape.

young people i tell ya.

I think you're confusing Carcass with a lot of British metallers... Very Happy

Back on fucking track: Yeah, grind brought some fucking balls and barbarity and pure fucking venom. You missed ND's 'Scum' from the equation though whose influence can be heard all over Blasphemy. Rather hear metal influenced by grind nowadays than trad metal influenced shit. Not enough energy or malice! Slaughter fit into this too for bringing the goods.

I left ND out because after reviewing the bullshit detector comp and the early demo stuff, i found genocide / repulsion to have the gritty guitar tone and blasts first in audio documentation...i picked carcass cause the nice primitive guitar whammy bar attack... its just the more death metal leaning records as opposed to the punk ones like ND but i agree, Siege, ND, DRI, Slaughter, LARM and Fear of god are very influential to the current land scape of extreme metal.

with that said

Terrorizer "world downfall" is a perfect mix of death / grind if i had to pick one record of that "era".

Damn straight! Slightly orf topic: Listening to Doom's 'War Crimes...' reminds me a great deal of Ildjarn at times. No idea if this is pure coincidence or whut.

World Downfall rubs elbows with Stillbirth Machine, Bathory "s/t", Melissa, In the Sign of Evil, etc in the GREATEST ALBUMS OF ALL TIME category.

DEAD SHALL RISE

Im always telling people that Revenge is like 90% Carcass ("Reek.." era specifically) and for some reason people want to argue me on that.

good call on Doom. another reference to blasphemy. I remember them dudes recognizing them as influence.

all these records remind me of high school when the shit hit the fan and things got faster in the mid eighties.

Good post.
I totally see the common thread with those 3 records.
Each one had/has a part in creating the Bestial sound, along with other records like "INRI".

Not bestial, obviously, but just to put France back in the race for the first punk bands with blast-beats.
