This album was my album of the year when it came out and has stood the test of time amazingly well.
While it builts on their earlier melodic death-thrash approach with complex songstructures it also uses a lot of black metal-like tremolo leads (like early In Flames did too - sharing a rahearsal space with Dissection might be the reason?). This album has so many great hooklines it's almost ridiculous and Friden sounds awesome.
Great lyrics and top-notch musicianship (especially for such a young band), too.
Any other fans?

Yes, big fan of their earlier works, and The Gallery is a masterpiece.

About "Skydancer", my fave song is, without the shadow of a doubt, " Shadow duet".

never been my cup really, even though I like melodic swedish stuff in general. the only thing that ever worked for me is that song of chaos and eternal night. what a monster of a song!

I used to have The Gallery and The Minds I and they bored me thoroughly. Which was strange because I usually like crap like that. I remember thinking it all sounded disjointed without any hooks to grab me unlike other Goteburg like The Jester Race and Ancient God of Evil.

To be fair I probably didn't give them a fair enough chance.

If you like the Jester Race you might like Skydancer, too. The Gallery sounds almost like it was written by a different band.

Really? I'll keep that in mind!

The Galley still gives me the chills, 21 years later.
Do any bands play DM like that anymore?

Here another fan of this awesome album!!!! I remember perfectly first time I listen to it when it was released and how it blow me away with melodic parts, mainly the acoustic ones, and their great vocals.

All Dark Tranquillity works until The Gallery are great, than with The mind's I I begin to lose interest on them for their style and follow albums have justified my choice.

skydancer, good album even if it does reach further than it's capable of. everything about the album reeks of teenage naivete, with its bald-faced attempt at end-all-be-all grandiosity. between the harmonies, the arrangements, the lyrics... sundin has basically said as much.
did pick up that CM remaster a year or two back, with the new artwork and all that. sounds very good, I recommend checking it out at the DT bandcamp sometime.

The gallery.... I couldn't find a vomit emoticon. yeah sure punish my heaven, the version on WAR compilation, and Edenspring are good songs. but I never was in love with it the way some are. The Minds I is probably their best album.
