My 700-strong collection is pretty meagre by most people's standards, but I've recently had to store most of them in my attic since my son came along.

I took it as a good opportunity to catalogue everything and insure the lot. I also don't really get to listen to my CDs or records as my wife isn't much of a fan, so I have everything backed up digitally.

I appreciate that this is sad, wrong, and definitely not metal.

Damn, what a tough question! I would definitely start buying again, though there might be a brief mourning period before I started the massive task of rebuilding. As for what 5 albums I would buy... that's really hard to answer. I'd have to say, the list would probably be mostly non-metal.

I guess i would hardly buy anything back as i hear these evil tunes already in my mind and see the covers with the eyes of my soul. (Am high in flu medication right now).

I think I would not try to replace my collection and just resort to downloading.
There's just no way, even with unlimited funds, that I could get the collection back that I have now. It's not just the records, it's half a lifetime hunting them down, visiting second hand shops and record fairs, doing trades and deals,...

First of all, I would feel good that I am still alive/not injured.

After that, I would let my insurance pay me for the damage.

And then, I would probably buy 5 NEW albums I recently discovered on the internet.

I'm amazed at the number of users who would feel "relieved". If you don't want to feel the pressure of buying and taking care of records, just don't do it. You can give me some of your records, by the way.

I would feel uttely pissed, but I think that I would do it all over again. The mais reason I collect records is because I listen to what I buy (not all colours, not all versions). And since I like what I listen to, I like to have it physically.

My top-5 would be:
Sarcóphago "I.N.R.I."
Slayer "Show No Mercy"
Venom "Welcome to Hell"
Autopsy "Mental Funeral"
Bolt-Thrower "War Master"

Some tears for the stuff I'd really miss (few). As for the rest? Yeah, it would be liberating. Starting again? Over my dead body!

Gotta light? There's no choice. I will burn with my collection. Imagine the scenario of carbonized remains plated with melt vinyl, bony fingers still holding the charred pages of Dauthus 3...the perfect way to go! Die Hard in Fire!
After all it's just material damage, even if you spent over half of your life collecting all that shit.
