I... I'd rather not think about it... Crying or Very sad

I'd regret my Noguera 5 strings bass guitar above all

But my old lady would feel liberated for sure

I would go straight digital ...and just buy a Harley again and forget all about the metal collecting scene.

Probably something like;

Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

+

Slayer - Hell Awaits
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness

for more 'extreme' listening Cool

I worked with a guy who lost most of his collection in a fire. I think he had close to 2000 records. He simply started all over again. One of the most laid back people I have ever met.

I don't think it would be the end of the world for me. A few years back there was a truck driver in Canada who lost his whole family to a house fire. He was on the road working when it happened. His wife and 6 kids perished in the blaze. SO I think losing your collection wouldn't be so bad in comparison.

I wouldn't buy so much music if that ever happened to me. I would keep my collection very small after something like this. I would buy back only some selected albums by Slayer, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Running Wild, Sodom, Kreator, Kat, Burzum, Graveland, Infernum, Motorhead, Skrewdriver, No Remorse, Honor, Asphyx, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Overkill and a few others. I would try to keep it between 200 and 300 records.

Hm. Not sure what I'd do. I had to liberate my entire LP collection once already (moved continents for grad school), and I lost a lot of now-valuable vinyl in that purge. The spouse and I have since independently built a pretty nice collection.

So, I'd probably start again. I'd definitely get the first 5 Iron Maiden albums, plus some Miles Davis and some Motown classics. Beyond that, though...it'd be a crapshoot. I am sure the spouse would buy all Springsteen. I'd probably buy Zuul, My Bloody Valentine, and Mercyful Fate.

I would be bummed yet, relieved. Though I love my collection, it has also been a burden so attached to my material possessions. If I ever did lose it I hope I would just move on to something simple.

Complete devastation. I cannot even imagine trying to replace/rebuild what I have. I don't have the money for that, and it would take forever. There is absolutely no way I could choose just a few releases to pick up as 'most important'. A few sub-genres that would have to be replaced right away or early on would probably be:

Old Polish, Finnish, and Austrian BM
Early 80's Post Punk and Coldwave
Old classics like Cirith Ungol and similar epic heavy/doom
Hunt down the obscure old-school DM albums that I cherish most

Terrible answer, I know.
Please don't make me think about this.
Ha!

I have set my limit to not more than ~300 records. Sold many in the last years. So, propably I would just be happy that the fire hit only my collection and not me. I would start definetely again buying CDs ... But then my limit would probably be ~100, hehe ...

I'd rather not fathom my collection getting torched... Some immediate buy backs however would be:

In the Nightside Eclipse
Don't break the Oath
Conan the Barbarian Soundtrack
The Last Command
Thousand Swords...

Just the idea of my decades of collecting going up in flames is enough to nearly give me a heart attack.
