I pick the Thin Lizzy guys. Nightlife-Thunder And Lighting have some of the best guitar Licks ever. My second pick is Ted Turner/Andy Powell from Wishbone Ash. They come before Lizzy and probably were the ones that influenced their sound, but they only have 2 lps I really dig whereas Thin Lizzy's discography is nearly flawless.

Among these choices I think Tipton and Downing surpass all the others in terms of how distinct from each other yet completely complementary they are. I think Hanneman and King are a wholly hostile expression of the same thing. But I kind of want to go back one generation from Tipton and Downing to the twin guitar teams that preceded them and clearly inspired them: Peter Green/Jeremy Spencer and Andy Powell/Ted Turner.

Impossible options to vote, so just honourable mentions to:

LaRocque / Denner
Torrao / Lalonde
Mustaine / Friedman
Lindstrom / Fogle

and of course: Young / Young.

I need to get more Wishbone Ash, I only have Argus (and love it).

Tipton and Downing for me, no contest. Priest is the ultimate heavy metal band.

Yeah, Argus is perfection. The first lp(self titled) is just as great and highly recommended. Pilgrimage and Wishbone Four have some good tracks, but just don't match the songwriting of the 1st and 3rd.

Hurdle and Lemay. You really can't leave Steve Cloutier out of the equation though. That these people actually found each other and made music together is divine intervention.\

It's been impossible for me to pick between Maiden and Priest when thinking about this poll so I'm just gonna say they both tie for first with Lizzy a close second. Another duo worth mentioning is Ulrich Roth and Rudolf Schenker
